Just by hand, the mass submission thing I have done before, and honestly: I have not seen much of a benefit from those submissions. I rather pick a few good ones, both free and paid.

Same here.
I use a program that submits to 380 free directories, lots of them with good pr.
That is my first step on a site.
Then I use people to manually submit to high pr directories.
Then I find only those directories that will help a particular site of mine and submit to them, paid.

I also use a combination of the methods described above.

I pay someone to submit my sites to FREE directories.
I submit to paid directories myself with the extension called RoboForm.
Web Directory ----- Paid Directory
I'm using a program ATM to submit some sites, even with it it's taking forever! Wow this will take me months to get all of my sites done![]()

Heck if you want a program to submit to 380 free directories,
I can give you access for a paltry sum.
I'm already using a program, I like to check / scan before submitting. It just takes some time to run it all through.
on my lesser sites I may be interested in the future...
Manually. Think, if you can submit them with a huge automatic submit software, then everyone else is too, no one is looking at those directories so there worthless.
I wouldn't call any link 'worthless' but yes they are watered down more than likely![]()

Prove that one!
Another misconception about using automatic software!!!!
My software is updated to eliminate those directories that went kaput, went paid, or no longer want automatic submissions.
A lot of directories want automatic submissions to build them up fast.
I used and still use this to build up directories with lots of links.
To say it is worthless, or that directories accepting are worthless, is a statement that is not valid.
A good point Dawg, alot of directories when first started want links to make them active and full of 'content' for directories that is links..

Big problem I have is the category suggestion...bit too limited.
But I have a good 50% or better acceptance rate.
This is going by those directories that actually send out confirmation and acceptance/delete emails.

Let´s say you guys have a site about furniture, how do you go about finding the best furniture directories to submit to?
Probably not the quickest or smartest but sometimes if i have the time to wade through 100's of sites just to get a few i do,
allinurl: furniture directory.
And all other variants of what i'm searching for.
depending on what keyword i choose it goes pretty well for my directories.(sometimes :P)

Thanks, not looking for a fast way, but long term credibility in G.
also give www.webconfs.com a try,
they have a "backlink builder" tool (didnt seem to work for me for a few days so did not mention it but going ok now)

1. Find Core Niche Directories search for “Furniture Directories”
2. Find Synonyms for your niche
• Create a combo of synonyms for each word
Furniture: furnishings, fittings, fixtures, equipment
Directory: index, list, listings, book, information, suppliers, manufacturers
3. Find related niches (interior designers, leather manufacturers, upholsterers)
4. Find tradeshows in your niche that are online, most of them have directories
5. Find publications in your niche that are online, most of them have directories
6. Find associations in your niche that are online, most of them have directories
7. When you find a directory in your niche, use Alexa’s “people who visit this site also visit”
8. Find which directories my competitors are listed in
9. Track all the submissions, rinse and repeat in 2-3 months
I pay someone to submit my sites to FREE directories (50$ for 1000 directories). I also submit to paid directories but I do this by my self manualy.
i did it manually...and submit it to lots of free directories

those free ones can keep you busy for weeks
