Thread: How nice are you?

How nice are you when someone tried to get a link in your directory and they don't provided you with all the information that is required? I have people that leave off recips if needed or give false/undeliverable email addresses. I used to be nice and try to give them a second chance, but I'm sick of the backlog bulding up in my directories because of these idiots! I'm going threw today and just deletingthem in my approval logs LOL! :evil:

Just delete them, if they come back hopefully next time they will get the hint!

I did ,5 pages from one directory, totally gone in my backlog! I hate people! wasting my time.

You might be in an auto submission program and not even know it. If that's the case they may not even know or realise they are doing anything 'wrong' for submissions to your directory.

You can tell alot of them were in auto-submission, they filled out the fields wrong and on ones where a recip was required, they just put the homepage address again! I don't like autosubmission, I do it all myself and feel everyone should have to waste all their time doing the same annoying linking tactics LOL

Easiest way to cut down or eliminate the auto submissions is to open up the captcha form.

And then there are the people who do submissions, they hunt down free directories to add.
That is where the majority of my bounced emails come from.

Bounced email, I delete the submission.
Put the url in the subject line, deleted.
Spam the description with nothing but keywords, deleted.
But since only one directory at present is accepted free submissions, I rarely get such submissions anymore.
People who pay do play by the rules.

Thats why I like you Iowa...you don't take anyones annoying behaviors! I love it! If their an idiot..their out!

Yeah, my first directory taught me a lot about spammers and people who can not abide rules.

But still, have people that submit sites that are not directories to my directories only directory, even pay for their links.
So refund and move on.

Then one directory I opened up not too long ago, free to submit.
Simple ass rule: you can submit your directory, but not as an ad.
Do not know what it is, but directory owners can not write a real visitor oriented review of their own directory. Always an ad "human edited, free regular links, paid featureds, blah blah blah"
Then so many got pissed at me for rejecting their directories!
Told them all, when you LEARN to READ the GUIDELINES, then I may accept your directory into my directory.

One of the reasons why people who open new directories that are free soon get out of the game.
They get bombed with so many submissions that they can not keep up with them.

I opened up one of my directories for the New Year Holiday for free submissions and geesh, every damn spammer and mfa site is being submitted.

One of my many pet peeves about directory owners is this:
Those that have paid directories are so damn cheap and will not pay to have their directory on another directory, yet they want others to pay them.
But they jump all over free submissions!

I also try to be nice, with a general day to day variation depending on my mood.
But if people can't use their time right and read the basic rules, well, they are not really interested in joining my free directory.

Have 6 or so free directories Iv been running througout 2006 and still running free, but the amount of cr** you revieve can really make anyone want to go paid

I started off, trying to be nice and make the necessary corrections.
I stopped out of necessity. I just don't have the time to be nice any more with that directory.

It's a free directory, on a few submission lists and gets between 250-300 visits per day.
I just don't have time to make corrections to submissions made.

If you can't submit according to the simple rules displayed right above the submission form... DELETED!
How hard can it be to read a few simple rules?

what I have no tolerance with is the people who wilfully submit things the wrong way, basically the spammers with a budget trying to get their crap sites into every paid directory there is. When someone is just dumb, i tend to be more lenient.

Here is a couple of examples
I have set up a rule for them to enter minimum 200 characters in the description field so there are a little "meat" on their detail pages.

I mean.. Comeon They are just totally wasting time for everyone, and ought to have the common sense to see that

Stuff like that ticks me off, too. How hard can it be to come up with a few different lines when you submit to directories? Cutting and pasting is so lame.

Love those types of submitters...makes my job easier to delete!

Just had someone actually pay for a featured ad and that was all it was.
So I refunded (maybe Ishould not have, let him put in a dispute with paypa).

Better off refunding than getting in an issue with Pay Pal that could cause them or give them reason to freeze your account as well!

I just don't trust them much anymore myself! Not since Ebay bought them out.

Odd thing about payapal is that in the majority of cases, they take the side of the seller.
So I can just point them to the website where it says, no refunds.
And the would probably take my side.

But why go through the hassle?

As my directories became more popular, I just cherry pick the good submissions and forget the rest.

A good way to go about, when you look at about 400 sites in your cue, click on the ones that strike your eye with good names, good descriptions, something interesting. Overlook all the cut and paste descriptions and the

keyword1-keyword2-blahblahblah.info urls. Works for me.

What about when you have 3,000 sitting there?
I'm getting swamped and can't afford to hire someone.

I would make it paid, at least for a while to cut down on new submissions.

At least make it paid until you can catch up.

yeah I have also temporary removed my free option as I got a 3k+ queue.
90% of the submissions are utterly crap and really makes you consider staying paid. They drain your life slowly when reviewing
