Might be a nice script, providing I can ever get registered on their forum!
Damn captcha form is a pain, so far, 8 tries and 8 failures!

    Finally!

I just plain hate captcha forms!

Big turn off for me for directories and so forth.

Only time I use them on my directories is when I start to get spammed by someone using my directories as free directories and charging people to submit to them.

Then after a few days, I take them down.

So IMHO, having an awesome captcha form is not exactly a big selling point of any script.

I find that pretty amusing considering the captcha here is identical to the one on our forum at cantufind. Mind you I did take two go's to get in here.

The phpLynx.co.uk script goes one better and the text/image upload captcha system is simply the best out there barring none, but then I am biased.

How many times did it take you to get in here? It really is the same forum software so I find it kind of puzzling. I have gone over to the owners and made your point to them though as we don't want people put off by other peoples captchas.

Well, I could not say, since it has been some time since I registered on this forum.
But knowing me and captchas, probably took me a time or two or three or more.

Being the software doesn't necessarily mean anything, I've had problems on some sites simply because of the character set thrown out and background. Not necessarily the captcha itself, but simply what was sent out at that time.

    Hello,

You fail to realize in the vbulletin admin you can adjust the difficulty of the captcha image. I have it set as easy as possible, you can have it display different fonts, colors, slants etc, it's actually been mentioned to me how nice and simple we have it here.

First of all welcome to the forums.
Now I want to know about the customization options of your directory script. Is there any Demo link you can provide? Is it templates based? how easily one can design/customize the template?

Sorry but your link doesn't work! I get "Warning: main(includes/languages/german.php) [function.main]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/pickdire/public_html/includes/application_top.php on line 290"

Thanks, these forum things are harder work than developing a brand new script!

I will ease of the gas with the captcha, thanks again,

BTW I went and checked the captcha out last night, 50% of the time it was easy to read 50% of the time to be honest I could barely make it out.

It works perfectly fine for me. Where were you calling the script up from?

    Thanks,

We're all entitled to an opinion and I value yours, there are an awful lot of people who would disagree with you though including Google who use captcha themselves.

The phpLynx script isn't based solely on the advanced anit-bot captcha it uses it has many other features like the ability to suggest a category when you submit a link that no other free script has, this allows for building of a directory on the fly as the 'user wants' not just 'duping' other directories databases.

Google are going to come down hard on these cloned directories, we intend to avoid this by not mimicking them.

What do you think would be good 'selling points' iowadog? we are listening.

When I have a moment, I will download your script and skin it, I love the challenge of skinning a new script.

I did it for IndexScript and discovered it was not versatile at all, though the script creator bought the theme off me and offers it for download and some article directories use the theme now too, so not a total waste.

    Anybody download this script today?
I tried twice, got file corrupted and files not in folder messages.
So can not use this script as can not download.

    Hate it when that happens!

You can use the script we even ran it through some tests for you, it installed perfectly. It could have been a corrupt upload/dload, either way it is fixed now and we just posted you advising you that we done a test run and it worked perfectly.

In fact its the version on the test server right now.

You only have to ask iowadawg and we will fix

BTW. 30 dloads today. I hope we get some good feedback and if we get error reporting (hopefully minimal) we'll fix it. Please remember guys this is a brand new script, we are bound to have errors, if they get reported we'll fix them thats for sure., and it is free after all.

The final release is out for the free version now Kalina, it takes a little getting used to but there are only one or three tpl files to skin so you'd probably find it a breeze.

We are already planning an upgrade for the free one which will see it incorperate an internal templating system so even newbies can have a pop at making thier own skins.

Probs won't be up to you mark but hey, our users will no doubt be looking for templates so the more made the better. We have no objection to people making a couple of bucks by enhancing the script.

phpLynx Features can be found at the cantufind.com/forum
