Thread: is reciprocal link with directories any good?

I've recently saw alot of directories sites that require reciprocal link, is that a good backlink?

Well I think it would be better if you would simply submit to directories which does not require reciprocals.

I never submit to directories who require reciprocal linking. The job of the directories is to link to sites, not to force the members to link back.

The worth of directory links is low in general and when the link is reciprocal its even lower (almost worthless)

That basically sums up my philosophy on directory submissions. I only go for one-way links because they're more valuable than two-way. Also, directories are a good starting point for me, but I don't rely on them as the main SEO method because they're so weak.

There was a time when reciprocal links worked really well, but that time has long passed. Some people still request this feature (in phpLD), but we don't see it discussed nearly as much as say 2-3 years ago.

I think reciprocal link with directories is not good. only link exchange with relevant sites.

I agree on that.

However I don't see any benefit with directory submissions, as Google has his SandBox for them.

It depends. Some human edited directories are considered by Google to be quality.

usually the directories in which your submitted site needs to be first approved.

I prefer link exchange on blogs than directories. It is effective and less risky.

There are lots of free submit directories to submit your site to without reciprocating the links so why worry over the few directories that wont add you to their listings except you link back to them?

I agree with Mwick that directory are been established link us not link them.

Indeed, normal link exchange is better than exchanging with directories. A good way to find partners is by posting on link exchange forums.

One way links are the best no matter how you look at it
and one way links related to your site are even better then that

Too much or too little is a bad thing. you do need to link out otherwise it's a bit unnatural.

Reciprocal links = yuck.
What's their value? Unless they have exceptionally high traffic none.

I don't submit to those directories who wants that their reciprocal link will be on my site because it will come up with possible of a link juice. It is still better if you do a one way backlink especially if you do your one-way link with those directories that are related to your site.

They are not the best types of back links but they do help, in a positive not they are very easy to get so they kinda equal out with any other link at the end of the day

For me, I only submit my site to free directories. Some directories claim that they will expedite to link back on your site once you also link back to them but I still prefer to submit my site to free one. I only exchange link to sites that is/are related to mine.

It is not preferable to submit your site to directories which require a reciprocal link as i am sure that it will not a smart thing to do. It will allow someone to take some of the link juice of your site. It is indeed a great post all in all.

You could submit to my directory, I dont require you linking back to me.

Reciprocal links = crap

I suggest you to go for one way backlinks. If you do so, you will get more traffic. Going for a reciprocal link is a bad idea.

I don't understand why anyone would do a reciprocal link with directories, and how they can expect someone to.

most directories have little value in terms of seo value.

you might want to search for directories that are related to your site.

that way you might get some traffic + some seo value.

don't waste your time on submitting to hundreds of directories.

hand pick some quality directories and try to avoid directories that require reciprocal.

yes. but i think the one asking for reciprocal link is the one mosey benefited by this technique of link exchange

I wouldn't do reciprocal links.

If Google sees that you have a lot of reciprocal links, it will decide that you're just trying to cheat instead of honestly linking to these websites and they honestly linking to you.

I don't know the extent at which Google takes this, but don't think about it. Just make a great website, care more about your content and the content your sharing that links to your website, and your backlinks will build by themselves.

I will not suggest directories that requires reciprocal link. When you submit your website and added your reciprocal link.. the search engine will give advantage to the directory site before your website get reviewed by the directory owner. Now.. what happens when the directory owner does not approve your website? You can just remove the link but you will have disappointments.

Anyway, it is much better to link exchange with different blogger that runs blog related to your website. It will be much more fair and worth it...

I think, reciprocal link have no problem. Because, you get the link & give a back link. I always use reciprocal link. I just create a reciprocal link page & add all link on that page.
