    Default High PR Sites

Serious directory owners usually try their best to make their directories useful resources, and it’s always a good thing to get some authoritative sites listed in your directory to make it more established.I found a list of many high PageRank sites today, almost all of them are popular and well-known sites.

If you are a serious directory owner, add them or some of them to your directory right away!

That is something all directory owners should do.
Add those authority sites onto each category and sub-category.

    Very useful list!

But some times it would be better to keep them empty, especially for paid directory. So the first link that pay can get the top spot.
We can use rss news/article/etc to fill the empty category.

Who wants to submit to an empty directory?
    Especially a paid one?

No, it is best to have one or two authority sites in each sub-category.

Actually Dawg if it's got good PR I  empty categories myself. More PR for my site, it's not being sucked up by tons of other sites already listed.

I do however see the need for authority sites in directories to get them off the ground, depends on which side of the fence you're on

Well, from what I have seen, directories built into exisiting page ranked sites, soon lose some or all of the page rank.

Now, for authority sites, good for a new directory to fill up the categories.
And once that directory does take off, you can remove them if you please.

On another tangent, with so many directories coming on board each day, has anybody every checked to see which are still in business in say 3 or 6 months?
Someone on DP started this with the directories that pop up there.
    Found quite a few disappeared.

Yes built into existing page rank, that however is a different story. Those cases also blow the theory that page rank it back links and nothing more, if it was and those directories didn't lose any links then how did their page rank go down?

There are 'at least used to be' many high ranking long term directories out there with odd sub categories with no links in them.

Well, if we have more than 1000 categories or higher, it is not easy to populate them all with some authority sites. It is easier to add rss news/article there for fresh content (to keep crawlers comming), and wait for PR update. Perhaps maybe better not open submission until you get high PR (5 or above). I think people like empty directory with PR 5 or 6.

That's nice list with all authority domains, free directories should consider adding them specially in empty categories of new free or paid directory (doesn't matter)

It's always a good idea to have some genuine 'authority sites/content' but caution should be given to the 'description' of the authority link. As long as its data from the site itself (meta description) it will be fine, but taking it from a list of 'pre-formatted lists' like the one mentioned here could lead to google considering it as dupe content.

As you can see in Dmoz TOS and copyright, anyone can take links to thier hearts content but descriptions if unique are subject to copyright protection, Google loves unique descriptions, even if it is about the same site.
