Dmoz, cause for some stupid reason it holds value, I can then get rich off my PR, buy a castle and become a hermit til my dying days, which I actually look forward to cause it sucks here.![]()
DMOZ...Cos I never had any sites in it. In yahoo have some and the result is not so big![]()
http://adsblog.info/dmoz-vs-yahoo/. Might be an answer to your questions.
Do you guys have any dmoz friends.. maybe someone can help to get listed there![]()
just submit to DMOZ and forget about it, maybe you get listed, maybe not
but there also many others out there that take it serious ...

So you are saying that you have friend that is an editor at DMOZ or Yahoo, or both?
I thought it was not supposed to work that way. I mean, with Yahoo, you pay to be listed. With DMOZ, you are to submit following their stringent guidelines, then, God willing months or even years later, you may or may not be approved...
I'd kinda like to know who this "friend" is that is so willing to violate DMOZ's, coveted, TOS.![]()

^ I think its just a hypothetical situation he is asking.
I would chose DMOZ, not a big yahoo fan as far as their directory anyway. DMOZ shouldn't be given as much credit as they get but they do.

I prefer the Yahoo listing - seems to send me more traffic than the dmoz listing. I guess it would depend on which category/topic you're placed in.
I have one site listed in both that receives traffic regularly from Yahoo directory and nothing from dmoz, and another that receives no traffic from either one.
I have submitted to DMOZ three months ago, and guess what, no reply or approval yet of my submisisons  I will choose Yahoo over them any time, any day.

I'd choose DMOZ.
Web Directory ----- Paid Directory

I cannot find a single instance of traffic generation via DMOZ. About the only thing I see a listing being good for in DMOZ is to validate a site to an SE like, oh, say... Google. Outside of that, I have seen no direct benefit. This was not always the case however...

I get a little bit of traffic from DMOZ, less since I had my main sites category changed a few years back. It however is nothing spectacular. I'm sure different niches get a bit more.
If you have a friend then its another case...otherwise it is really very hard to get in DMOZ.. trust me on that...
But Yahoo! pay them $299 and they would happily list any of your site! :P

Dmoz for me even if they haven't listed my site yet. :shuh:
ofcourse dmoz it's hard to list my site with them

I have to go for Dmoz. It has good PR and many directories use their database. I have waited 3 years to get my informational site into Yahoo through the free submission for non profit sites. It still isn't in there and they have changes things up now so I doubt I will ever get it listed.

The thing is with DMOZ.. It's way out of date. Is it really even updated anymore? I have sites in there that do not even exist anymore...

Same here.
I get emails now and then from a directory about a site that is dust after 2-5 years.
And emails from directories that took like a year or more to finally approve a site that is no longer mine, no longer live, or something.

True that on google.
Hate it when I click on a link because I am seeking information and I got to a landing page instead that says this domain may be for sale.
Plus they are a bit behind on a lot of sites, I have one that is still showing a thumbnail from earlier this year.

I know... Google beats the crap out of legit sites, and then lets the shit shine through at number one....
It's a sad day when KingBloom Directory has results in supplimentals, meanwhile a turd that is scraping my site is not... Go figure.. google needs some work.

Why more and more of the geeks are moving to other search engines and advising people to use alternative search engines.
And if google loses their geek base, they will be hurting.
As when google started, it was only the geeks who used it and promoted it.

I prefer search engines that search a bunch of search engines at once, for you, like Metasearch Search Engine - Search.com
Neither DMOZ or Yahoo will bring in any significant direct traffic.
DMOZ link is generally higher PR, and besides an entry in DMOZ
also gives an automatic entry in Google directory, so I
would prefer DMOZ.

You have all heard of Dmoz, but wait till the soon to happen launch of my directory A2ZMOZ. I am close to completing it and it is all coded by me. No script like PHPLD will be used. I will announce the launch here so you can get your sites listed.
dmoz is very hard to get listed too, some people have tried for years submitting once every 6 months and nothing...why? no reason given by dmoz, they don't communicate with anyone as to why not, even the most legit sites entering in the correct categories with perfect text don't get in, it's a shame that a directory like this is so important.
I will go for yahoo meanly because of traffic
Yahoo Directory charges you right and Dmoz is free? I think Yahoo Directory is better, but Dmoz might be as good. :1982:

I am sure when you pay and your site is good, you're guaranteed to get in. It appears, to me, DMOZ doesn't let anyone in. I consider them dead and a waste of time. You get what you pay for... Dmoz - Nothing.
Its a good thing to be listed in DMOZ as it is free and it does bring in traffic. But you will have to wait forever to get listed, lols.
Having an inclusion in Yahoo is a bit expensive. I would raher spend the money in some other promotional ways to draw targeted traffic![]()
duh? The reason is obvious! Every time you resubmit you just overwrite the previous submission with the new date and move yourself to the back. You are the reason!
birdie added 1 Minutes and 34 Seconds later...
DMOZ lists >2000 new sites a month. That makes it the fastest growing directory on the www and no other directory comes remotely close to that. Thats not dead, thats an awesome achievement!

For my opinion DMOZ is good for PR and Yahoo for traffic
and i think that listing in this directories will give highter position in google or yahoo

What are you basing that one? Whingers in forums or real data? If you download successive DMOZ rdf dumps and count the sites, DMOZ has been growing pretty consistently at a bit over 2000 new sites a month and has been for many years (with a few blips). There have been no recent decline in this. DMOZ is still the fastest growing directory on the www.
