Thumbs up phpLynx as back-end for directory?

    Hi WTF people and friends

Need your opinions and ideas on Directory Lynx.
Anyone tried using this as a back-end for your directory?
What do you prefer using PHPLD or directory lynx?

    Thanks in advance.

    hi fire_lady,
I'm not sure what you mean by "back-end for your directory" but I am familiar with Lynx. What questions are on your mind?

If your looking for comparison between it and phpLD....there are many differences. It will really come down to what you want and what you like.
Sorry to sound so "generalized" there with that statement.

yes, I have both the Free and the Paid version. The free version can be seen here: LinkSubmission.net :: Home

    My personal thoughts:
It has lots of features that are included with the script...therefore....you don't have to go pay for and install additional mods etc.
The support folks are great and very responsive...plus, support is FREE.
The admin interface is very good and intuitive..easy to navigate.

    Downside at the moment:
The code is encrypted but that's not a huge deal as you are still freely availbe to customize the templates/look and feel of the site/script....but being encrypted means that mod developers can not create new features/items. You will need to ask the Lynx folks for additional features/mods

Since it is new, there are very few templates at the moment but new ones are popping up on a regular basis these days.

So in a nutshell...I would reccommend the script simply for the vast features already built-in and the free support. But in the end...it's really what you value in the script that makes it worth using or not.

Sorry for the late response to this post fire_lady, @thanks for the kind words Tom,

Fire_Lady not sure what you mean by 'back-end' for your directory, but what I can tell you is that I have definately had experience on both phpld and phplynx.

Tom pretty much hit it on the head when he said about paying for mods to make your directory work the way you want it to. I got fed up with that with phpld and decided my money would be better spent with developing my own script, hence the birth of phpLynx.

I'm not going to go into the experiences I had with phpld save to say they prompted me to make the phpLynx script based on the idea that including as many features as you can 'out of the box' such as deep link mods, multi field search, etc etc, as opposed to buying a script and having pay for mods to do this was the way to go.

I didn't want to have 'hidden prices' you pay one price and get all we offer including support at no cost. Rather than me harp on about how good I think the phpLynx script is or why I think its better than phpld, (I'm bias) I'll give you this link and let you be the judge. phpLynx / phpld features comparison

Even this list is out of date now as we listen to comments made by users and many features are now 'global', what that means is that you can put features like the anti-bot feature on any form you want such as the feedback of a site, the recommend a site' and so on. To me these features although small are things people wanted to stop spammers, so I put them in.

As of yesterdays update, thanks to fantastic feedback from members like Bernard, and my team of moderators and testers we think we've pretty much nailed the bugs that are inevitable with any new script and can now proudly boast of having one of the most bug free scripts out there. Hopefully our users can concentrate on developing thier directories now rather than spend their time reporting and fixing problems. The free version has pretty much been bug free for a long time it was the extra features of the paid version that needed attention.

I had to mention Bernard btw as he came back to us after a long break and picked up on dozens of suggestions and minor bugs which we never saw and tested us to the max, we responded by simply listening and putting right everything thrown at us, many forums would have gone nuts with the amount of questions he put to us, we never, we listened, I'm sure he'll agree.

Comparing to phpld Fire_Lady, there is no comparison really, we have just about everthing built in, phpld don't, we don't have the mass supporters forum, we only have 500 plus members but we don't need it. (I take a low membership as a good thing), more often than not forums have large memberships due to bug reporting or requests for mods to be made or installed and so on. People tend to come to us, grab the script and get on with things, great for me as we don't have to spend time on support, although it's always there if needed.

We don't have a zillion templates, there are a load of them out there but people tend to want to make their own, but there are people setting up satellite sites to make them and more, it will come I'm sure, it never happened overnight with phpld, I can't seriously expect it to happen with phpLynx. What I can say is that we'll work tirelessly to maintain the highest level of support, and always listen to members and if we can make the script better we will.

My main worry now is the flippin phplynx.com site, boy have I neglected that one while concentrating on the scripts. mg: Now I'm confident that the script will stand the tests thrown at it both free and paid versions, maybe its time to get on with the rest.

Thanks for reading War and Peace chapters 3,4 and 5, won't post this long again I promise.

Always wanted to try out phpLynx but I'm too hooked into phpLD and I haven't found any coders who can make a customised template for phpLynx Does anyone know where I can find such coders, because if there are any I will certainly seriously consider using phpLynx in the future.

Colleen did say she was going to have a go at templating the script menj, not seen anything yet but know here work is very good. There's actually a lot of coders doing templates for the phpLynx free and full versions, and people setting up satellite sites with these. I like original templates myself as copies don't rock my boat but its all down to how much money we want to spend.

Stumbled across this thread and would like to introduce myself,

I currently own phplynxtemplates .co .uk, I can design and integrate virtually any template into both the free and full version of the phplynx script.

If anyone has a design in mind and would like one integrating into the phplynx script please drop me a PM.

My site although new has a few templates on it and if you would like to see my work please check out the portfolio one the website, as I said its only been online a week or so and I have already made a full custom script which the owner is very happy with.

I am curently integrating a new design which can be seen on the cantufind forums in the templates / showcase area which is where i usually hang out.

    Thanks
    jojo

Wow, exactly what I am looking for. At the moment I do have some conceptualised plans for another directory in mind but I don't plan to work on it until mid-October. I'll KIV your portfolio and when I am ready to start this new web directory, I will contact you directly

    Thanks for the offer.
