Thread: What to chose: featured or normal link?

Everyone who wants to submit his website to paid directories, asks himself: featured or normal link?

You have a list with strong directories.
Most of them has 2 options: featured or not (both paid, but featured is much expensive and normally your link will be placed on page with some PR)

What to chose?

What do you mean, what is more important:

the strength of the domain and that I'm listed in the directory (doesn't matter that I'm on the last page with NO PR)

Or is it important to be featured and on a page with high PR?

Will my link benefit more if I'm on page with high PR?

And the big question:
Do I have any benefits If I'm listed in a strong directory but on page with no PR?

I suggest you first submit to as much free one's you can find, after some time you check your stats and see which one's actually give you some traffic, then you submit to those !

well i think Featured links are more worth buying. BEcause if the directory having large number of links your link will be on the top of the other regular links. so the visitor looking for the link will see the featured link first. and definately you will get visitors.

I go free.

I'll buy if:
- Good PR
- Has lots of free links, so if mine was free it would be a couple pages down where its pretty much worthless
- Cheap ($10 or less for directory link)

That's what I was going to say.. no sense in paying for something you can get for free.. traffic is the key. No traffic from most directories so you'd just be paying for a link..

There is no difference in feature link and normal link so far as search engines are concerned but for traffic feature links are goods as they are on top and drive traffic.

while checking number of links there will not be any difference in
featured link and normal link. Regarding hits, I don't think directories can provide a huge traffic.

wow, of course there's a difference between regular and featured, first of all because it's on top of the page and many times it will will on top of every page, many dirs has several pages for the same sub-category, so that does give an advantages, the higher the link is on the page, the more value it gets !

anyway, I don believe in paid submissions, first of all because there are about 2.000 free dirs out there, so why pay for any of them, but most of all because Google doesn't like paid link, although the dirs claim of course it's for the work of the review etc and not for the link itself

The most common ways of getting backlinks are thru social bookmarking, directory submissions, submitting to press release sites, forum sigs, etc. etc.. What's important from an SEO point of view is getting relevant (same niche) and quality (organic / natural) back links. Also having back links to high PR sites helps your site on PR building as well.

On a marketing perspective IMO, having more targetted link backs is very important as these yields the highest conversion rate. In general, the more link backs you have - the more exposure your site gets - the more chances you get traffic from these back links

Instead of paying for directory links to be featured, why not just invest them on something else that could get you targetted traffic (like thru PPC, targetted back links, etc.)? This way you get traffic that has higher conversion rates

no one visits these directories, so there's no point in choosing featured links

I think free links are good. It takes more time to approve but gives great traffic....

Simple, if you need linkbacks choose Regular or free and if you need traffic too, choose featured

I only ever use free links. There is all that hubbub about Google asking people to report paid linking because they don't want webmasters to "buy" their way up the rankings so much as they want us to "earn" it. Also, people here saying that directories don't send traffic are correct. Directories are good for backlinks to boost your search engine popularity. I have top 10 pages all over Google as they consider my sites popular because they have a lot of backlinks from directories, though the directories themselves don't send much traffic.
