Network Solutions is under fire this week for domain "front running," or for purchasing and holding certain domains after they're searched for at the company's website, thereby not letting anyone buy the domain at other registrars.

I read about this earlier today, a good way to drive people away from your site. Then again I never check domains with them.

Maybe if you see a good domain and haven't got the cash for a few days you can use Network Solutions layaway service.

I can see why they want to do this. Nobody will register a domain with them for $35 a year. But people are using their site to search because they are supposed to have the best connection to the WHOIS registry.

Gah!! I always used them as a search tool cause you can search for a lot of domain names in one search. Godaddy's domain search sucks!!! So I went to Godaddy and searched for networksolutionsrealyreallysucks.com and it wasn't taken, then went to NS and searched, and it wasn't taken. Then I did da search at GoDaddy again...and it was taken!!!!!!!!!!

That's why I always use Namecheap. Even godaddy can be dodgy. I used two different paypal accounts with the same details and they flushed all my domain names back into the system and accused me of fraud.

I've used namecheap for searches for a long time. I've never encountered them scooping domains I've searched but did not buy right away. Good company.

This is about to come to an end as they are getting sued over it. Lawsuit also names ICANN as a bad guy and allowing the front running practice to be abused by NS.

Its one of the biggest consumer rights protection law firms in the US thats filing the suit. Wow!
