    Default subdomains?

Should I use subdomains for petbetter.com?

    For example:

    cats.petbetter.com
    dogs.petbetter.com
    birds.petbetter.com
    forums.petbetter.com

    etc

I have not used this before however think differently about this site.

    Tell me what you think.....

Hmm... that will sound great. Are only those 4 sub-domains or are there any more?
But I think this will be a great idea.. Its like each sub-domain will be showcasing tips and other stuffs about that particular pet..! Great idea..go ahead..

    I would also have fish.petbetter.com, general.petbetter.com and blog.petbetter.com.

If I go ahead with this I would have the same design but different color scheme with each subdomain.

In terms of SEO, what do you think?

If they're all part of the same site, there's no SEO benefit compared to using petbetter.com/cats.

If they're going to be totally different sites then you should use cats.petbetter.com.

They are all going to provide the same service but they will all be different.

I think I will go ahead because if someone is a "dog lover", they would want their own separate/unique site away from all the other pets.

The sites will be viewed as different sites, I however have had very, very good luck using subdomain.domain.com over that of domain.com/keyword

I will not get into it much, there however are benefits as there are also weaknesses from using a subdomain in this situation.

But what would the main page contain? Will link them to the sub-domains?
