I just enables it for all my domains (namecheap provides it for free).
What is the main advantage and is it wise to use it?
Thanks.

It means that people can't find out your address/email. Personally I do not like the thought of just anyone being able to look at my personal details. So to answer your question, yes I use it on most of my domains.
I use it if it is available free, but I don't buy it.

I have it on all my domains its more of a security thing for us. I also use whois a lot to look up ips everyday. Its amazing some of the lies people tell online esp when they are pretending to be in Afghanie or Iraq and they arent.
Bit of a tipif your not too sure of a member at your site, try using their email address at myspace. Have caught a few people out there as well.

I'm personally not too concerned about people knowing my personal details. I hardly ever get any spam in my inbox, anyway. And I never pick up my phone if I don't know the number.
I've used it on one domain, though... for not very honest purposes.![]()
I find I have to use it sometimes. I get letters from compaines telling me they are contacting me on behalf of my registrar asking me to transfer my domains to them!
The funny thing is, I own my registrar! I've got a few thousand domains that I personally own and if I dont use whois gard, I get letters every day!
There are the odd one or two that I dont use it on though.

Nothing major... I had this pain-in-the-arse client who insisted that the domain she gave me was the right one. I tried showing her that the domain didn't exist... but she wouldn't listen. So, after her brochures were printed with the wrong domain, I went ahead and registered the right one. When, she refused to pay me for the work I'd done, I kept the domain, put some unpleasant stuff on it, and applied hidden whois.
Another time, I confiscated a domain off a client who didn't pay up, but I had a written contract that until payments were complete, I owned everything. I didn't bother hiding the whois there.
I don't buy it, If I get for free I use it.
Godaddy Domains don't give for free, so I use my personal data in godaddy

Well Name gives WhoIs privacy for free..!

I use Godaddy and I don't think they have that for free;
Therefore I do not use it.![]()
I got it free for a year off of namecheap, it makes me feel a little better knowing my personal information isn't so easily accessable through my WHOIS
I always use Namecheap to register my domain names, so of course it comes free with every domain name, so I leave it there. I do prefer people to not be able to see my personal information.

I use it if it comes free or if I want to hide my info from users

Yea if available else fake info with correct email address![]()

No.. you can't use hidden whois with .us, .in and several other ccTLDs, at any registrar.

That's great that they offer it free. I'm a GoDaddy user too, I only like it because I used to like or rep their, but now we have a different one that I'm not as happy with.
I have it on a few major sites but not all of them. I have people actually calling me from my domain info. I made the rookie mistake at first of putting our home number on our domains, then when our first members site took off, our house phone kept ringing with people/companies wanting in on our member site. Very annoying!

If for free I would use it. But since I would have to pay I don't.
I don't really get WHOIS but I use it to tell forum bots from forum members sometimes if there's like 5 guests online.

The forum doesn't seperate actual people from spiders on the "whos online" list. So if I look up the IP in WHOIS it tells you.

I too enable the whois guard provided for free by namecheap.
