Thread: Does my domain Suck?

I have recently started a forum with the domain compusupport.org (Computer Support) But I'm not sure about the domain name? Should I change it to something better before its too late?

Please help, advise needed?

I dont think it is too bad at all and what you have to ask yourself is can you find one better that has not already been snapped up which i imagine most of the obvious ones have.

Yes, it sucks. I wish someone told me that about my first website because it wsted so much of my time (original site was www.(keyword)guide-online.com).

No one calls a computer a compu, doesnt sound right at all. Better to find a better domain name. Plus compu is not a word that is worth remembering. .org is more used for large sites or companies.

Thank you all I will look into changing this domain while the site is still very new. What are peoples thoughts on using hyphens i.e. computer-forums etc?

Your going to think I am a horrible person now I dont like hyphens at all. I dont even think that I have ever used an address that has one in it.

He makes a good point. People do call computers 'pc' 's and not a compu online ,and use a .com.

Computer is shortened often, how about Comp USA?

Personally I like the domain, not too fond of .org's but for the purpose of your site it's not bad.

I would use the domain you have, if you can find another decent domain that you think is a bit more friendly you can always forward it to your current domain.

I like your current one better

I think your domain is perfect for your purpose.
Just make sure you brand it properly, and they will come!

The only thing is, you have an 'organization' name.
Doesn't need to mean that you're big, but it's shown that you are.
You need to get yourself something special, to make yourself seem much larger then you are. ;P

Nah go the bottle LOL Do you own the .net and .com of compusupport? I dont have a problem with the name to tell u the truth, just dont like the .org for some reason. With advertising Compu can become memorable. Its different and yuneek

unfortunately the .net and .com for compusupport has gone. I think I am just gonna have to change it. I'm torn between pcproforums.com and a1pcforums.com hmm....

hey speak for yourself. I'm over here on my compu getting ready to drink some coff. I only use folge because when I drink coff I want to taste it. oh noes! I just spilled some on my keybo. I hope this doesn't affect my compu.

Let us go way back, past compuserve and fidonet.

To the days of BBS's.

And the name escapes me, believe the company was audiotel.
That was prior to the internet, but using their service (they gave you a neat little one piece unit with keyboard and monitor to use) one could get into the net.
This was like in 1990.

The above computer was originally from France, when France had this bright idea of connecting every single home and business in France onto one national network.
And now in 2008, France has slowly let that service die out and will be no more later this year.

Your domain you have now is NOT that bad honestly. Even though people don't save 'compu' it doesn't matter if you heavily brand it.

I went for pcproforums.com in the end. Thank you all for your help and comments.

A always like to go for something unique that people will remember. I think all the good domains that describe the server you are offering have been taken. Try to think of one word that sounds cool and isn't taken. Obviously you won't find a English dictionary word, but there are still ones you can makeup that sound good.

These will stick in peoples head, and so long as the content on the site is good and unique people will remember it.

I think the domain sounds fine, I personally wouldn't change it.

pcproforums.com is good

The domain name that you are using doesn't seem to be that catchy or easy to remember. You might want to find something that's more memorable something that's catchy. I think if its a new site it will work for a while but to be brandable you need a better name.

did someone say we should check out PCPForums.com ? because it wasn't at all what I was expecting.

err.. my creative head gave me the suggestion--> comsport.com . Wait...does this reminds me of physical activities?
