Long domain name is not better, but if your domain name is exactly same is targeted keyword then it is good.

A domain name should only be as long as it needs to be, and no longer.. I prefer keyword domains so some of mine may be longer than most would prefer.

One of my longer domains is freepcgamedownload.info .. but then there's no doubt what you're going to see when you get there..

3 to 5 word domain is also good but make sure each word doesn't consists many characters that makes your domain too long.

IT is always prefered that domain name should be short because it is rememberable.but if short name is having special characters than long name is good.

The answer is "no", is not professional to use a domain like LolekandBolekHostingCompany, better LBHC.

it would depend on which purpose you're aiming..
if you're aiming to gain high in adsense, you can use long tail keyword in your domain names..
but, if you're aiming to build a brand of your product, then a short, rememberable, and catchy domain name should be your first options...

I think that shorter domains are easier to remember !

But all depends on the type of use youre going to give to your website.

For ex. free-offshore-webhosting.xxx will be an exellent domain if a little SEO is done. but will be dificult for possible buyers to remember.

It is easier of course to remember the short ones, but even 4-5 words can make a good and memorable domain name and if the page is good you can always bookmark it, then no need to type it in all the time, so in conclusion better have a good sounding long one then a short 5 random letter/number domain.

I guess it depends on the actual name itself. Some long ones can be easier than some short ones that really don't spell anything at all. I do prefer short easy to remember .com's. Kind of depends on the content and what the site is about too I guess.

Having a long domain only works if you have established the name.

1800flowers.com is a great example. They have established themselves enough so the domains make sense and help them.

Since short domains are all registered many are going longer domains to get better names and that is why I registered 2 domains in the past week.

    It all depends,

If it is easy to remember, and you have the time and money to market it properly, even domains like FreeCreditReport.Com can become household names. I wouldn't go much longer than that thou.

I think google likes the long names just as much as the short ones. Anyway if your domain is not a brand name you can use long names that describe your niche better!

I think that most website titles manage not get passed along by phrase of mouth. Especially niche ones. I figured that most of my tourists will arrive by quotation from the Internet and not two persons conversing at a party swapping websites they like.

I spent a lot of time thinking about my domain name. Whether I should have a long one or short one. I can see that most of you believe that a short one is better.

For me it was between a short name, easy to remember. And a long name, more descriptive.

In the end I chose the long one, because I think that most website names do not get passed along by word of mouth. Especially niche ones. I figured that most of my visitors will come by reference from the Internet and not two people talking at a party exchanging websites they like.

Other advantages with long ones is that you have much more options because not too many long ones are taken. And they stick out more – I find that when I see a long domain name somewhere I usually tend to read it.
I think you are right, also if you look at the most popular websites on the net they have all short names. For niche targeted sites it doesn't mater much.
