Thread: Are Similar Domains Considered Spam?

I am wondering because I have 2 very similar domain names

www.biology-nation.com
www.biologynation.com

as you can see they are exactly the same just one does not have a hypen.

Although both domains are spelled similarly both domains are unique in both, content, design and site features.

One is meant to serve as a resources reference site.
The other is Open Biology Forums that allow for member engagement of discussions about anything pertaining to biology.

One is 1 year old, the other only 2 months.

i am wondering, since I have integrated both sites meaning that each site links to the others corresponding relevant pages.

Would this be considered spam? Or me trying to create my own backlinks? I really do not feel so, but I am new to the game. So could someone please advise me?

Wow, Does Anyone have any feedback on this?

I would really like to know other webmasters opinions on this, because google is making such a big deal about spam, yet it is always unclear about as what exactly spam is.

It would be considered duplicating content by search engines (which may mean penalties in search engine ranking).

Other than that theres no problem with it.

Personally I would just point one of the domains to the other one (so when someone visits one they automatically go to the other - where the full site is).

Oh, and assuing it is hosted at the same place the backlinks won't really matter anyway - as it's counted as coming from the same server.
