Thread: better to have .net or different .com?

lets say I have the opportunity to reg [keyword].net or [keyword]online.com

Which would you got for? I mean lets say you want to go after the KW "competitive car insurance" would it be better to have competitivecarinsurance.net or competitivecarinsuranceonline.com?

How important is tld and precise url matching?

I personally would go with the .com to be honest. Dot coms always show better on the Google ranking and are more memorable.

Why not buy both? I buy .net and .com domains of the same name from my host ALL the time.

Your backlinks are what help your site grow. .com is more know. online is still 6 extra letters. Try to dig deeper for the right domain name. keyword,secondkeyword.com

.COM's are always more popular. SEO is not determined by your TLD (.com,.net,.co.uk, etc) I would get both and just forward the .net to the .com

Get both and then have the .net forward to the .com if possible so there is some good coherence. Personally I think .com's are the industry standard in terms of domains because they are kind of what "defines" the internet.

I just don't see people given the choice of .com vs .net choosing the latter. Every single time I register a domain via my current host I will always do .com first. It is easier to remember as well.

Dotcom is always the best choice. If you can think of another name it's ideal.

The suffix has no bearing on how a site will rank. If you are desperate for a specific name, there is nothing wrong with .net domains. I find if it trips off the tongue easily it is usually a winner.

I would think .com is certainly better... c'mon, dot-com? I had to settle for .net for my site, but being a social networking site I didn't figure it sounded too bad. I don't think there is any difference in how anyone's search algorithms treat sites due to extensions.

.net is a fading domain extension and I think .com is soon going to be an industry standard. I just don't take sites with .net seriously anymore.
