    Question .info vs .com ?

i just bought several .info domains a great deal @ $1.99 each, compared to $11.99 per .com domains!
in your opinion are the .coms really worth the extra 10 bucks per domain per year?
does google, yahoo, and bing give a higher ranking for .coms vs .infos?
thanks for any and all input!

.com dominates hands down.. as far as i know .com is given some more authority in eyes of google over a . info
Further if you register a domain for say 2 years as compared to 1 year .. you get more authority...

.com can provide your better results than .info. But the disadvantage will be that you may not get the domain which you wish to get.

Because .com is the better known extension, it will invariably get better type-in traffic. However, INFO itself is a keyword so in some ways it can add to a domain's value (in my opinion). My thoughts are if the .com is not available, go for the .info if it fits (informational).

Well, I don't agree with you guys. I have seen many websites with the extension .info showing on the first page of Goolge above the .com sites. Search engine positions completely depends on the way you market your websites. There is no such thing that Google favours .com sites more.

In many cases, I think a .info will beat a .com in the rankings .. they seems to get indexed faster (in my experience) as well but as I said, more people are apt to type-in .com than .info.. many people are unaware .info even exists.

You can do well with a .info if you do good seo for it just like any other domain. I don't see as many .info's ranking well in search results, but I do see them sometimes so it is possible. I personally like .com's that is just my preference. There are obviously a lot of other tld extensions out there too, and with .com's very difficult to get what you are looking for, people will need to turn to the others.

The thing is, I prefer .info for informational sites, even if the .com is available. Usually the .com is premium which makes the .info a bargain by comparison.

Choosing a domain extension should rely on the type of content you are going to host on it. Basically, each domain extensions have its own purpose such as .Com are made for commercial sites, .Org are used by non-profit organizations, .Net are built for companies offering internet services and .Info are used by information only sites. You should decide in which type does your site lies.

well if you have a good idea, and less money, why not .info, You will still get a lot of traffic, and later on you can go to .net or .com.
I have seen many do that. Just you need is IDEA.

If you rely on "word of mouth", people remember the .com while the .info may be easily forgotten. Regarding inbound links and building PR, .com versus .info should be virtually identical.

What I think is that if a website is famous and its on .info people will remember it. Believe me, if giants like facebook or twitter would be on .info, people would have remembered that too. Personally I think inof should be used for a website specifically designed for information purpose, for example a website designed to give information about a country, or a sport (lets say footy dot info ) containing only information, nothing else. Thats how it should be, .tv for a tv site, .org for organization and .info for information site.Anyhow regarding SEO, the above post makes sense.

I do know that Google places a higher emphasis on .coms rather .infos. .INFO Domains are widely used by spammers due to the price of them; I.E. GoDaddy sells them for $1.99 (last time I checked). .COMs are available for $9 - $13, and have been around for a LONG time. One could argue that .COM is used for "commercial", but that's not the case. They are used by everyone, be a personal blog, corporation, fortune 500 company, or game cheats website. .INFO stands for INFORMATION, but it looks to me that those sites are purely spam; not all, but most.

Here's how things are. If you're thinking about SEO, Google doesn't make a difference between .com and .info. That is 100% correct, because I've seen a response from a Google employee. So, that helps your organic traffic. Info domains are cheaper, therefore you can setup multiple websites for some low cash. But, on the other side, people don't easily remember .info domains, .com stays in mind a lot longer and literally states that someone is dedicated to that website. So that will affect your direct traffic.

Choose, loads of .info's or a few .coms, depends on what you want out of it

I think .coms are worth more than .infos and that the search engines will favor .coms over .infos if there is high competition.

I really don't think so. There are many .info sites which are worth more than the .com sites and are listed above the .com sites for same terms. Google values relevancy more than anything. If the information given on site is relevant to the domain extension, it will definitely get a good value in search engine rankings.

A dot com will always be the industry standard. A dot info will be cheaper in most cases but it doesn't have the prestige or the recognition the dot com has. I'd personally always go for the .com before thinking about any of the other extensions.

All domain extensions have an equal opportunity to rank in searches for relevant and desired keywords. .COM does not have priority over other extensions like .NET and .ORG.

If you are considering resell them .com does have a higher value for sure. But if you use them it's okay. Google won't put a .com site over your site just because of being .com. Google doesn't rank based on domain extension.

The real issue is due to the low price of .info domains they have been abused by auto blogs, black hat systems and spammers. So Google and other search engines will wait a lot longer before they trust a new .info domain.
If you want your site to rank and you're buying a new domain then buy anything except for a .info.

    Cheers.

I can agree with that. Most of the spamming activities are done using the .info domains, so this might be one of the reasons why Google takes more time to trust .info domain names.
