It hasn't been asked. Will see what the others think.

I'm ok with it, would be good to keep adult sales seperate IMO

Hahahahhahha...I was at DP one day and someone was mad because there is an adult site section and anyone who posts a link to a porn site is inviting all the kiddies there to visit.
And it is surprising how many at DP have porn sites in their signature file.
I think the adult section should be moderated so as not to include "over the top" adult stuff personally. There are some things I wouldn't like my grandchildren seeing.

Or some things you would not want to see your grandchildren doing.
LOL
Or vice versa, maybe some things you would not want your grandchildren to see about you.

Who's definition of "over the top" do you enforce? It's either you have an Adult section or you don't. If you do have one then "over the top" can only mean "illegal". Otherwise don't bother with an adult section.
BUT!!! there could/should be rules on what sort of content can occur directly within posts. The post could link to racey stuff, example = a site for sale thread, but no hardcore nudity existing within the actual post here on WTF.

I would vote no if the site accepts minors.

Well, I'm new to this forum, but if there is the remote possibility that children (anyone younger than 18) are visiting this forum, then it's probably not a good idea. I know that some of you might have important stuff to discuss about your pornographic sites, but truly, what's more important? The few kids that visit this site hanging on to childhood, or you discussing what sexual position to advertise in you SEO efforts?
It is for 'selling' of sites, it's better to put them into their own category than having them in the general sales area.
As far as minors, they get into adult sites themselves without any problem. They definitely are not going to come to a webmaster forum to try to find adult material, when all they have to do is use google
GRIM added 1 Minutes and 37 Seconds later...
Yes, I believe our terms should already enforce that. Anything such as that would be removed.
Sorry but that's like saying Google can't list adult sites as it accepts minors.
I honestly do not get the argument there.

Question For Anyone Willing To Offer An Answer:
At what point do we, as a society, start taking responsibility for our own children, instead of expecting total strangers on some website to do our parenting for us?
It's simple...
If you don't want your children to see questionable content on the internet, take responsibility for the situation and make sure that it doesn't happen. Stop relying on webmasters and the government to raise your children for you. In other words, be a parent!
Sorry for the rant, but I'm getting pretty sick and tired of seeing crap like this getting in the way when some parents think that the responsibility of parenthood should rest anywhere but with them.
The above applies not only to the internet, but TV, radio and anywhere else you feel the need to protect your children. In our particular case, we've decided to create a separate section for adult related, webmaster related topics. This is a courtesy to the adults that come here so that they don't have to deal with that subject matter if they don't want to. They are adults, so they can make that decision for themselves and stay away from that area if desired. This does NOT apply to children. We all know that children will immediately be drawn towards things that they shouldn't be. That's not our problem. It's the parents' problem. We're not babysitters.

I wonder if we could enable some form of plugin to require age verification for the adult section. I understand this is not full proof, it however is better than what most forums would offer.

At best, all we could really offer, in reality, is the illusion that we are verifying age. Even if we forced credit card verification (which seems to be popular for some strange reason), that doesn't ensure that the person is over the age of 18. These days, any kid can get their hands on a valid credit card. So age "verification" on the internet went out the window a long time ago. All we would serve to do is pester the adults who ARE over 18 with this "verification" nonsense.
If you don't want your children viewing adult material, then parent them. Watch them when they're on the internet. Watch them when they're watching TV, etc. That's the repsonsibility of the parent, not the webmaster.
The webmaster probably has their own children to look after.![]()

as i can understand some of you guys concerns but you got to remember this is a webmasters forum in my case i make adult web scripts from time to time and think that type of stuff should have it own section.
there is lots of software out there that will prevent your child from such content
this is not an insult but we are all here for a reason to make money and get new ideas we are not here to babysit
Come on guys. Really? These kids are not going to be corrupted by adult domains. We have a "Sex" section in here! Anyone interested enough to click into the adult section is interested enough to just google search for porn.
Crap, the only time I promoted adult sites I was under 18.

WebTalkForums adjusted the registration process here weeks ago, we do now require a birthdate as we enabled COPPA (see below) due to having a "sex" forum. This protects us.
"Use the COPPA registration system. This complies with the COPPA laws and requires children under the age of 13 to get parental consent before they can post."
Obviously, people can lie about their age and will do so, all we can do is protect ourselves by putting this system in place. I believe anything else I could say has been covered above by GRIM and Zap.![]()

EDIT: i posted the below before I noticed the second page...lol
(curious though, does the forum block access to those adult sections for anyone under 18?)
there is a vb mod that does not let someone change their birthday once registered, then there is one to limit access by age...using those two would easily greatly lower the liability of minors on the site in the adult sections...
(in the US...it's illegal no matter how you look at it...if there are no restrictions in place...you are considered supplying porn to a minor)...
if they lie when signing up...not a problem for you..as you have no way of knowing that...
While i do believe adult sections are a must, they must also be protected or they are quite pointless...

The owner of this forum is not a US citizen
Yes there is a mod put into place, however the law on content is very cloudy. We would be supplying no more, actually MUCH less than google offers. Google has no age restrictions in place.

The servers physical location I do believe is in the US.
That really gets into a cloudy area, again google supplies more w/o any type of age verification.
Blogs, adult sites, top lists, etc are all over the place, TGP's even without any warning page or anything all supplying much, much more than what would be on WTF.

i know the feeling of cloudy, lol...i had an issue with it with one of my clients...though you do make some good points i never thought of...if i had of thought of that i wouldn't of had such a headache figuring out what to do under pressure....lol

Either way, I don't believe just text content is illegal. Pictures/videos are a problem.
Look around at sites that say "How To Give a Blowjob" or something like that. In addition to leaving an odd history in your browser, you'll notice there is rarely, if ever, an 18+ warning
And that would probably be more graphic than anything in a webmasters forum.
