Don't you think some kind of instant chat script would be nice?

You could use a shoutbox for Vbulletin since there are a lot,or flashchat or something like that.

It's a possibility, it's been requested before.

Just think it would be nice since more and more people are joining day by day.

Would be really nice to talk instantly with other members.

Well we did a trial already, and even though it was requested, it was hardly used and was also used to spam at that, so it was removed.

You should think of using the Inferno VBShout Pro edition which has the feature of blocking words (others have it too)

This way you can reduce SPAM

An irc channel would be nicer

Yeah, I can't see myself paying $40 for a chatroom that I am not even guaranteed anyone will use when vbulletin.org has free solutions.

We'll see how much interest this thread generates and go from there but I am definitely not paying for it, I don't think it's worth the investment right now and I don't exactly have money to throw around anyway.

I don't think it's worth the investment. I visit forums and post because I like that format. I never frequent chat rooms or do IM.

Me either, and I hate IM with a passion. It's kind of an intrusion to me.

Me neither. Never use IM programs.

What's so important that I have to know about it immediately, as opposed to a minute or two from now?

Honestly I don't think it'd be worth it. I wouldn't use it anyway.

You can chat in the forums easily enough.

I have agree with Colleen here, we have Flash Chat and a shout box on my DJ Forum. Flash Chat rarely gets used. Once in a while we do a scheduled chat with an expert in something (speakers. MP3 conversion, etc) but that's about all it gets used for... I just reinstalled the shoutbox, the members seem to enjoy it, they say good morning and joke around with each other stuff like that, nothing really serious though.

PS: I'm with you and Zap on the IMs.. annoying people just never shut up and keep interrupting me.

Worse yet, annoying imers with annoying sounds everytime the write something [MENTAL]Grrrrr[/MENTAL]

I don't use IM of any kind.
Tried once, and geesh, the messages came hot and heavy, with the latest crap sale or even worse, the porn.

There is nothing that I can think of is so important that a regular email or a posting on a forum can't take care of.

Also rarely use chat functions on forums. Bit useless feature.

I think it would drive traffic away from posting, not to mention shoutbox's are notoriously very exploitable.

I think they make a forum look juvenile on top of everything else.

But i like talking to whoever is on

You can chat in the holdem poker casino room. I don't suppose you have to play poker but it's a good way to pass the time.

I've seen these cropping up on a lot of forums and I think they're a waste of time. All they achieve is to encourage small talk and distract people from posting meaningful content elsewhere.

Then again, it does get people to return to the forum, if for no other reason than to chat.
Maybe they will find posts and threads that they want to read.
