I personally prefer Windows Live Messenger. I use Yahoo and GoogleTalk sometimes.

the messenger for chatting purpose is yahoo i think, its best for chatting. its even better than other services like Gtalk, live messenger etc. yahoo is the best, i am using yahoo form past several years and i had no single complain till date.

I have used yahoo messenger since I was 14 years old, of course that was way back when yahoo was awesome and still let you create your own user chat rooms.

Now it simply sucks, how can a software program have so many powerful features yet no one wants to use it because yahoo all the chat rooms are filled with bots and you cant create your own user room.

The rooms that they have listed are pathetic and are always full, atleast when you could create your own room you could control who goes in, boot the bots and control the over chat room topic.

I still use it every now and then, but no longer a devoted user. Still prefer to webcam on yahoo over other messengers

Excite was the first messenger ever to allow the use of avatars and I just liked the typewriter sounds that ICQ made as you typed, lol

My vote goes to Windows Live Messenger, it's just great
Yahoo has a poor layout, not as easy fine tuning to make it as personal.
whereas windows live can be used for business purposes too, it's much easier to quickly change the personal appearence say from friendly to businessman.
