Another reason why I like MyBB

Autumn, have you used SMF? Is MyBB any better than it? Any major differences, pros/cons?

Yes, I used SMF for a while and then I switched over to MyBB. MyBB is very much like a free version of vBulletin in so many ways. Plugins are much easier to install with more detailed instructions, inline moderation similar to vBulletin. Only thing I don't like is that you can't soft delete - yet The support forum is way better than SMF. You are lucky to even get a reply if you get stuck at SMF. It may have improved, but MyBB work with you until you get something fixed if you break something.

MY BB also allows you to hack the code of it. This makes it possible to make it your own.
They will even help you do this if you ask them.

I looked and MyBB doesn't have a converter yet for SMF to MyBB but they do have one for phpBB 2. Mid-week I plan to convert my SMF forum to phpBB 2, then use the MyBB converter to convert over to MyBB.

My members though are having major angst over even an hour downtime to even convert the forum, they really depend on my forum, many users are new to the 'net and can't find the "New Topic" button in SMF as it's a text link over to the right, and it's small to boot. I am hoping MyBB is better for them all in the end.

We never soft delete anyway, my moderator and I just move stuff to the trash, I have yet to be spammed, it's just trolls pretending to be people they're not in order to fool my members.

how to convert from smf was someone wanting to merge. I can't find the forum that beta users posted their progress in now. I guess they closed it off after they stopped the beta.

Well in phpbb3 it tells you in the admin panel about that stuff.

I don't know, if a designer knows what she/he is doing the style is pretty damn good.

mybb is cute but there's no way I would trust it and have an entire community on it! Never! It's coming along but I think still has a long way to go!
