General Question for General Idea

Hey all I just wanted to get a general idea on how many members people here you have, what software, how old it is and what sort of site it is for.. Please no links. Please only reply once with your answer this is not a constant thread.. I just wish to know for RIGHT now :sgrin:


I run a forum about forums and installing them. The site is under a month old and I have 36 members. I run a vBulletin board with it.

very minimal advertising (odd sig, small blog here and there)

Inactive members get deleted every 6 months. No advertising done. Was hacked once and I had to start over. Bastards.

Imported two other vB forums into this one. One was 5 months old and the other was 1 month old.

Very less advt. done.
Only sig links, reciprocal links from similar niche sites, word of mouth, etc.

I own and help to run a niche forum, that's pretty much for DJs only.

18 months online
797? (right below 800) members
~20% of registered members return daily
~50% of registered members return weekly
4 Admins
2 Supermods
~10 Moderators

Users in the awaiting email confirmation group get deleted after 30 days to keep the member count true for both members and sponsors.

We also utilize usergroup permissions for a couple of 'special' forums hidden from regular members, one of them is for women DJs so the guys don't bust their chops as has happened on other DJ forums, the idea has been received well by our members and resulted in the highest number of active female DJs on any DJ board out there.

For troublesome members, we don't necessarily ban them, we have another usergroup that strip the member of posting permissions in all forums. This works especially well for 'famous' members. Basically members whom other members constantly talk about.. To be fair when 'famous' members act up we don't ban them we move them to the no posting user group this way they can still read any posts about them. We also moderate quite heavily when it comes to other members speaking about 'famous' members, we simply state that members is no longer here to defend himself, please refrain from speaking negatively about him or her.

For members who harrass other via PM or try sales via PM, we simply drop them in a no PM, Email, or signature group.

Also, lots of off topic posting in a 'Pub' forum. Members complained back when we first started that there was a lot of potatoes and no meat, so I created a separate publically joinable user group which has no permissions in the pub, therefore they cannot see it.

Absolutely no online advertising, mostly WOM (Word of mouth).

vBulletin is the engine and the members are the heart of the site. Keeping everything streamlined has been tough but we've got a great team and one hand always knows what the other is doing through 3 levels of staff forums.
