    Default vBulletin Expert? Me? lol

I went to the VBulletin forums to get some help and after I got the answer I needed I decided to stick around. I noticed some questions being asked that I had figured out for myself so I answered them.

Next thing you know a bunch of vBulletin newbies were pm-ing me
I had to tell them that I have only been using vB for a couple of days and that I just knew some things lol

Same here, and I am no expert yet get called one, and wordpress too, lol.

Wunir, there's nothing wrong with helping people sometimes, not everything should be about money, when you help people, you'd be surprised but you end up with paid work because you develop a reputation as an "expert".

I hear you Emma, I gave up all of the vB help sites as it was too much gimme gimme gimme. I don't mind helping out by when just helping others become a full time job, you're being taken advantage, IMHO.

Now I just hang here and answer the vB questions that I can.

Wow, I never had the gimme gimme happen. Every place I helped at, even DP in the css/html forum resulted in work for me.

I get offers in PM ending in "I'll pay you"

It seems every time too, anywhere I go, if a help out in several threads, I get work, perhaps I am just lucky, it might be odd jobs or big jobs but it's work nonetheless and repeat clients usually too. That's how I got most of my regulars!

Part of it is I'm easy. Well of course you already knew that. . I don't mind helping, really I enjoy it but I've gotten a couple that thought I was there personal vB tech support person.

I had one jerk on Joey's site (vBFAQ) that constantly harassed me over IM and PM over there. Shortly after that and some words with another admin over there I stepped down as mod there. This guy was a real clown, I'd go in and fix something with a template then he would go monkey around, screw up what I fixed plus make more errors and swear up and down he didn't touch anything.

I too have gotten a couple of paid jobs off of helping people but compared to the time I was putting in it wasn't worth it for me. I still like to help and do over here.

It concerns me how little people are willing to actually put forth effort in today's world. I just received an IM from a fellow admin in one of my forum's niche who didn't know how to change his postbit to vertical :2009: (even after he supposedly searched both vB.com and .org).

While I know vBulletin can be confusing at first, I take pride in figuring out my own issues and use tech support as an absolute last resort.

Sorry for the rant and I'm glad you are figuring out things yourself, Emma

Whats funny is that most of the answers to their questions are RIGHT THERE! they just need to actually read the posts the vB team makes

His expertise lie in other areas.

As we all have different skill sets, can still be a "sharp cookie"...
