Help me start a contest on my forum

I have never announced any contest on my forum before, so i wanna give it a grand start.
Basically the target audience are not webmasters, so I am totally confused about what should be the contest about, prizes, advertisement strategy, getting sponsors, etc.

Please help out people and if anybody would be interested in sponsoring the contest, i would be more than happy.

If you are good at any service then give it to them like banner design etc

I do have a premium section wherein users with 10+ posts are given access.
I am very confused of what prizes to offer since i want the contest to attract tons of traffic!

Tons of traffic? Good luck, it'd have to be a pretty big/costly prize in my opinion.

I've never seen a contest attract "tons of traffic" but I have seen them attract tons of scammers with dupe accounts and tons of cheating.

its really hard to offer prizes,i had planned some giving away stethoscope or some medical books like kumar and clerk and Davidson's Principles and Practice of Medicine and so on..,well you can also give away some things that might help dental students.

there is one problem you want to avoid with contests. make it so people want to tell other people about the contest. so often I don't tell people about contests because it lowers my chance of winning.

are you allowed to have guns? isn't it dangerous that kangaroos can get them?


if you're thinking of home defense, a shotgun is really a better choice. you don't have to be as accurate, and with low level lighting, plus the stress of having your home invaded most likely you won't be shooting accurately.

ex-army cadet gurl here so have had a few goes at shooting different guns. Guns are illegal here. But I like the look and feel of pistols. Also in home invasion, think I could have a go at handling myself okay thanks to years of martial arts and a gd who was SASR.

What about one of those Wii or some game console, or if its for students one of those little voice recorders, so they dont have to take notes, they are usually good prizes to win and you can buy it thru the internet easily. On my site I just have t-shirts, mugs and caps as prizes. Or have a male and female prize, for the females, makeup, prob sounds silly but who doesnt need the stuff and for the males dunno.

Supporting Troops From All Over The World I have my own shop its in the menu, and you can choose the percentage that you want to earn, and they do everything its my main money earner, people can go in and make their own tshirts, mugs, aprons etc and it gets sent to wherever they live. Plus I have a few designs on there if they want them. Its a great idea and your not spending anything to have it there.
I dont have any other ideas for prizes lol

Don't know what kind of comp you would run but as prizes you could offer cinema tickets. The Escapist features a man getting a tooth knocked out, and there is that new movie called Teeth, but it has little to do with teeth (in the mouth).
