    Default forum.example.com or forum.com/example?

    What do you prefer?

    forum.example.com OR example.com/forum

I'm planning to open up a forum (vB, of course) and have blog as home page and forum as sub domain.

Personally forum.example.com is better, but that's just what I prefer. I think its easier though too have it on a subdomain rather than a directory as it separates it and keeps it more organized IMO.

I am not quite fully understanding,

If you go to the cPanel for example.com, and create the sub domain "forum", then it should automatically create the folder /forum under the home directory of example.com

So what is your question? are you asking if you should just go ahead and create the sub directory without actually creating the sub domain?

I say, create the sub domain, then put the files in the folder that is created for you!

I've always liked sub-domains over folders

For me, I kinda do them both to be safe with everyones preference. I create the forum.domain.com and place a forward for domain.com/forum so either one works

I generally do the forum.domain.com, but like sarahlee said, make sure both are working and you'll have no problems.
