Yeah tell me about it. One after another. Plus there is all the talk about 3.8, and I even keep hearing little whispers about vBulletin 4.0 not being too far away

Yea, me too noticed it when I logged in my admin panel.

Well, I am not too worried about it because I don't have to do the upgrades, my coder will do hehehe

I read on another forum that there was a problem with the original download for 3.7.4 it was corrected after a few hours but if you upgraded when you first seen the announcement chances are you should redownload the package and reuplaod the files.

I was going to wait for the 3.7.4 PL 1 release to upgrade if history is any predictor we'll have one by the end of the week BUT I'm starting upgrades on my customer's sites tonight.

They still have to provide updates for the stable release as that's what most people would be using, as with all scripts. Work does not stop on the stable release just because they're working on a beta.

3.7.4 is just a minor security patch. 3.8 is apparently what they would call a major update release, like when they did 3.6 to 3.7

Updating is not really that big of a deal just annoying. You gotta hunt down your login info for the member's center remember to copy your member number so you can paste it in the update script. Fire up the FTP app, make sure you don't over right your index.php (for vBa boards), run the stupid update script, delete /install/install.php and go back to look for templates to fix.

It's just a drawn out process IMHO. It'd be nice if the link to the new version in your ACP automatically logged you in to the vB Members center and you could use something else for ID verification perhaps an email address with the upgrade script.

That's what's awesome about SMF, you can perform an upgrade right in the admin by clicking a link, it grabs and installs the latest package for you, but I guess having a license would be trickier..

Yeah I did some work on a SMF install for a buddy of mine and I thought the upgrade process was pretty awesome even though I don't particularly care for SMF. I believe there are security concerns with auto updating, the folder permissions have to be set a certain way which makes them more vunerable to hackers from what I've read.

I'm pretty much either a vB or MyBB guy so I might be a bit biased.

After you're done the upgrade, there's a link in the admin to put all the folders/files back to non-writable except the bare minimum one's necessary, such as the custom avatars folder for example. It does it for you at the click of a link.

Now that's really awesome! I didn't realize that. It'd be really nice if vB would implement something like this.

If you think about it might be in their best interest on the piracy front. Jelsoft could make it so when first install vB you just upload a couple of files to your server and it automatically connects to vB's servers and downloads the whole package. This way the whole source isn't sitting on people's computers and available to file sharing apps. Sure someone could just connect via FTP and download the files but it's an extra step and not everyone is going to realize that.

Big Dan added 762 Minutes and 30 Seconds later...

I upgraded two boards the other night with no problems or templates needing to be fixed.

This morning I upgraded my board and I do what I always do. Overwrite the favicon with vB's default. It really gets twists my britches because I'm to lazy to look for and extract a backup so I have to make a new one and reupload it. Sometimes, I'm a tard

Before my upgrades I always delete install.php and favicon.ico because I always used to overwrite mine too, now it can never happen.

I figured that out with install.php 3 upgrades ago but for some reason haven't carried it over to favicon.ico.

You should see how many times I've overwritten my clients vB Advanced index.php with vBs default and boy do they get pissed.  The best part of it is, I check afterwards and dont' realize I over wrote it because I'm so used to my forum and WTF having the default index.

    vBulletin 3.8 Beta 3 Released

This release contains a number of bug fixes, but it also includes an improvement to private messaging. When you view a message, you will see a "Message History" row below the quick reply. You can use this to quickly display previous messages in that "thread". This feature only works with new (after a 3.8 upgrade) messages that are in response to a previous message in the thread.

There is an extensive blog post by Darren that showcases some of the new features and improvements that have been made to vBulletin 3.8.0.

    Significance of a Beta Release
This is beta software. If you are not fully at home with backing-up and restoring your forum, dealing with bugs and regular upgrades, do not install this beta version.

    vBulletin 3.7.4 PL1

An XSS flaw within the user control panel has recently been discovered. This could allow an attacker to carry out an action as a user or obtain access to a user's account. To resolve this issue, it is necessary to release a patch level version of vBulletin 3.7.4.

vBulletin 3.6 is not affected. vBulletin 3.8 is affected, and the next beta/release candidate will include the fix.

The upgrade process is the same as previous patch level releases - simply download the patch from the Members Area, extract the files and upload to your webserver, overwriting the existing files. There is no upgrade script required.

As with all security-based releases, we recommend that all customers upgrade as soon as possible in order to prevent any potential damage resulting from the flaw being exploited.

vBulletin Blog 2.0.0 Release Candidate 1

It's time for another Blog 2.0 beta release. This release contains bug fixes for issues reported in the previous beta. We recommend anyone using Blog 2.0.0 Beta 4, upgrade to avoid running into known issues. This version requires vBulletin 3.7.4. If you are using Beta 3 on vBulletin 3.7.3, you will need to upgrade to vBulletin 3.7.4 before installing this release.

Details of the features and enhancements included since v1.0 can be found in my previous announcement or in my blog.

Note: You must be running vBulletin 3.7.4 or later to install Blog 2.0.0

    Significance of a Beta Release
This is beta software. If you are not fully at home with backing-up and restoring your forum, dealing with bugs and regular upgrades, do not install this beta version.
