Signature Updating

I notice in this forum and some others that when you change your signature, it updates all the signatures in all of your posts, Can someone explain how I can set this up in vBulletin? Ive looked on vBulletin and can't find any answers.

Is it not done automatically?

I have not done anything like this on my forum but when I edit/remove signature it affects on all posts.

No, by default it just changes future signatures I think. Or at least that's how it is for me :S

It's built-in to always show the signature as you currently have it saved. What you describe is not possible, the script is grabbing the signature's content from your user entry in the database so it can't output it differently, it can only either show it or not show it. It does not have cached versions of signatures.

Perhaps it was some other forum software that I used that did this. I do know I used something once where if you updated your signature,, it only showed on posts you made after you changed it, and all other sigs on existing posts stayed the same.

Compu, I know I've seen it on a 'rougher' forum package I forget which one it was though. I remember using it for one reason or another and was frustrated by the way the signature was stored. On this particular forum, the signature was called from the database then appended to the end of the post's text in the posts table. Like Colleen explained, the signature is a seperate database call in vBulletin and most other mature forum softwares do it this way.

I say why mess with something that works. Signatures being updated globally is a great idea, especially for webmaster type forums as people drop websites and change focus all the time. You'd end up with a bunch of dead sig links plus members wouldn't be able to sell sig links on your forum (good news, IMHO) if all their posts aren't changed when the signature is updated.

Oh sure I agree. I was not trying to do this lol. I thought that this was the way that vBulletin worked. I wanted it to update all sigs on all posts. I just thought it didn't, but it does so its all good. Thanks for all the help guys
