    Default Looking for forum software

I've been wanting to run a small forum for years now but haven't had the time nor energy. I picked up a domain yesterday that I decided would work well for my goals, thank you ComputerSupport. But now I don't know what forum software I want to go with. I've used vBulletin in the past and liked it but it wasn't mine and I don't want to buy my own license at the moment.

So, question to you, what "free" forum software is up to par with VB? I know they all do about the same thing but I still would like some suggestions. I've looked at "Simple Machines Forums" and "phpBB2" in the past but that was years ago. Reading some other threads on this site I'm now thinking about "MyBB" but those threads were quite old.

I don't want this to turn into a software war, so lets keep this between the for mentioned packages.

    My thoughts:
"Simple Machines Forums" had a lot of issues in the past, but I liked it when I used it, has it gotten any better?
"phpBB2" is it to popular? I don't want to be worrying about security updates constantly.
"MyBB" I have no experience with this but seams like a good choice.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

If you are looking for something that is on par with vBulletin then I would really go with MyBB, it is definitely the closest match to vBulletin. phpBB is terrible software in my opinion, SMF Is not bad, but it is nothing like vBulletin, so if your looking for something that looks and feels like vB I would go with MyBB (Very easy to use too)

MyBB is real easy to use. Unlike phpBB, you don't have to edit file to installs mods. Just upload and activate. Yes, like Justin said it's the closest software to vBulletin.

After Justin's recommendation I downloaded MyBB and I'm in the process of getting that setup, thanks peoples.

I'm liking it thus far, skinning seams a little odd but then again I haven't had much time to play with it yet. But everything seams fairly simple, I think I'm going to like MyBB.

So, this thread can be closed. My decision has been made.
