Members but no posts

My forum is growing at about 2 members a day recently, but none of them are posting which seems odd. I know lots of people sign up and dont post but about the last 100 members havnt even made one post between them.

Is this normal?

You should give more benefit to your members such as share revenue or some competition.You problem also maybe because your title category forum is not attractive.

are you sure those arent bots? how good is your sign up sheet to prevent that? it does happen but i doubt 100 of them.

Make a checklist for yourself and keep an eye on those registrations and see

1. The email address of new members.

On my forum I used to receive 30+ new registrations daily but all of them were from xxx@mail.ru. It is not good or valid email address, they all were either bots of pure spammers.

2. Whenever new member joins, follow him and see what he is doing. Many spammers (human) just join the forum, go to profile setting, put the link in their homepage field and left the forum. I have removed this on my forum and now user must have 15 posts to get it activated.

3. Follow these tips forum forum owners if you like

That sounds about right to me. I notice my stats (who's online, etc) and see more guests and lurkers than anything. Close to half of those who have registered have never posted at all. I am sure that some of those who registered did not receive the emails due to a spam filter or other problem.

If you need to get active of all your members first thing you do to promote your forum is to be active on other forums! Be active on forums and websites, especially on those related to your topic. Strike up good relationships with your fellow forum owners. Post quality and informative posts about the subject that you are most familiar with. With any luck, you will be viewed as a valued contributor and any link to your own site from your forum signatures will give you lots of traffic.
For a new forum, you may also want to take the lead and start some new discussions. They should be provocative and make members want to respond to them. You may also want to add some incentive to your forum such that visitors will make up their mind and register on your forum.

Definitely true. This is normal for newly built forums.

I think they are not posting there because they are not finding revelant topics over there and they also dont like the quality of your blog.

Do you have a downloads sections on your forum? Many people I knew just register to a certain forum and just to go to the downloads section.

Several people at myhosting.com's forums have had the same issue. It is all normal if you ask me.

My advice would be (the people there recommend the same) to roll out some incentives for posting. Maybe add a market place where people can trade and do business?

There has to be a benefit to posting and you have to exploit it.

You should start or innovate some new marketing plans for forums! like announce any offer that can lead your forums to gain active forums posters

If your forum has worthy content visitors will become members, members will make posts, posts will get reply and you won't ask this question

Looks about right to me. Some of them may be spammers that signed up and then realized they couldnt spam. If the email address ends in.ru you might as well delete them as 99% of the time they are spammers and bots.

well it is pretty normal to have several hundreds of members but only a handful would only participate in the community. I would usually call them lurkers. They are in the forum just to get information. Converting lurkers to posters would require a lot of content and probably you could offer some prizes to encourage them to posts yet again these are only suggestions that might help you with your forum.

Well, the reason behind that is most of the visitors must have came through search engines, and people on the internet are more lazy. So, it would be much better if you start few threads in each category for 2-3 months and after that, members will take initiatives into your forum. Make sure you post on the new and famous topics that would interest the visitors.

As any other business expect you to post most of the time. In time you will grow a big forum.
I would also add that 2 / day is a good number ( rather then nothing ) ... if they are not bots. They might not write but if they are real people and you give them a news letter ...

Lots of spammers join forums, and register multiple usernames under the same IP address...so check and make sure that each new member is using a unique IP address.

I have noticed that lots of spammers sign up, they lurk around for months, just to check if their account is still active...then on one random day, all of their spam accounts will mass spam your forum.

So be careful, and most of all be diligent!

Not a single post odd. Make sure register have the permission/privilege to post in your forum. Check your permission/other settings.
