To be honest I started off very funny with forum softwares. I use to love PHPBB free forum software. I then was able to aquire a Invision Power board licence then I was addicted to IPB. I hated VB back then. Now i'm just using VB and i'm extremely happy with the admin cp and the posting interface.
Everyone starts with something and finally ends up with VB only![]()
Are they updated the same way as phpbb :-S
I'd prefer VB over IPB.. In past IPB had more features than VB front end.. but now VB beats IPB everywhere..and PHPBB...?? It sucks big time..
Its more of personal test, both of them offer nearly same features. But VB seems to have larger, active community with good number of mods.
I think VB is the best one.
Just an update, both my big boards have now been upgraded to IPB 2.2
www.bfarber.com
www.xbox-skins.net
The upgrading was done by the previous owner of bfarber.com and who now works for IPB. There seems to be a massive improvement on the previous versions. The speend is well up and the server loads and the bandwidth use are well down. CAPCHA is now set-up on both to reduce spamming. I hope it is much more resistant to hacking.

I'm ready to make the jump from PhpBB. How difficult is the conversion to either Invision or Vb? I have several forums but my largest with more than 1200 members, 50000+ posts are what I need to move. I'm a little skittish at the thought of it.
From what I know VB is very easy to convert to, it comes with a program to do it for you.
Are you serious![]()

On my Linux VPS, I always use VBulletin with a license. I stress the license because you can get some nasty exploits that jeopardize your forum if you use a bootleg copy.

For those who are confused like mistikuss, vB is vBulletin which is a forum script that needs a license to be used. IPB is Invision Pro Boards which is a freeware script.
