vB or IPB
I prefer vB because of customization features.
vB or IPB
I prefer vB because of customization features.
vb...more nicer and proffesional
I dunno... I know VB is better , has more features etc... But I like IPB for it's ease of use & direct approach. IPB is less intimidating for newbies.
IPB definetlly. Since its easier and better looking. Look at it your self.
im a pro that's why I like v bulletin..hehe just joking
VB is good if you want very strict Moderating.
Like I said, VB offers more out of the box features. If that's what you need then go for VB. If you are looking for simplicity & ease of use go for IPB
IPB, mainly because I am used to it. I love the IPB acp.
but theres a really big diffrence in vb in ipb..ipb is free if version is less than 2.0 ..
Oh I didn't know that, is the free version any good ?
Its the same one as most people use for free board hosting, like invisionfree .
which is winning now?
vb. much better thyen IPB ...
they are the same as I see however styles of IPB can be more beautiful than VB
IPB ----------> Looks - Simplocity
VB -----------> Tools - Moderation
yep..ipb looks much better than VB
I prefer IPB, looks much better :D
IPB , I dislike vB
I prefer IPB than vBullentin because ipb is easier to install and user friendly
definitely ipb but I think now most people will like vb coz now vb is cheaper than ipb :(
same as u mate :D ipb is really nicer and better...definitely ipb but I think now most people will like vb coz now vb is cheaper than ipb
I would say only 3 words... Invision Power Board a.k.a IPB
IPB FTW!!! I have been privileged to have been an admin on a site using the newest version. The admin CP is by far greater then anything else I have seen.
I like Invision Power Board because of the feel and looks, they are awesome. I also find it much easier to use the ACP for brain deads like myself, I also find that the range of skins is far greater and better looking.
I find vBulletin harder to navigate and the ACP hard for a brain dead like me.
The ACP in IPB is the best bit about it. It is reasonably easy to use but it does seem a bit scary the first time you see it and there is soooo many different thing you can do.Originally Posted by Intoxication
Yeah, it is a great part about it. Although I am not a fan of IPB 2.2.x, I prefer 2.1.x. I think they are putting in too many features with 2.2.x with all the user profiles and such, this will most likely prices for skins will go up with the extra work involved with making skins for 2.2.x.Originally Posted by Dean
Yeah they are putting in to many features...didn't they put a blog thing in the latest release?
I am not to sure about that but I do know they are selling some sort of blogging system.Originally Posted by Dean
They are becoming to powerful lol. How much does IPB cost?
There's actually free forum hosting available for IPB v2. The link is at http://www.ipbfree.com/home/Originally Posted by Frost Fox
I prefer Invision Power Board, but can't really explain why. Even though it is more secure, vBulletin is a bit put-offish...
At the moment, I must say VB. I have two large IPB forums (>30,000 members) that had been hacked repeatedly whereas VB had never given me any trouble. However, this may not be a good comparison since my VB forums are nowhere as large as my IPB forums.

I like vB probably just because I'm used too it. I've never used IBP on the backend but when I see a forum powered by IPB, I tend to go somewhere else. I don't like the way it looks.

I have had a lot of problems in hosting these sites but have ended up as follows:
xbox-skins.net - dual xeon 3.0 with 2GB Ram
bfarber.com - dual opteron 244 with 2GB
Both servers have other sites on them but these two sites are the main users. I have hosted xbox-skins.net and bfaber.com on the same server before but it wouldn't work.

I don't have any experience on the backend for either, but as an end-user I've come to like vB a bit more I think. Perhaps it's because I've been on more vB forums than IPB but...somehow VB just feels a bit more, well, homlier to me. What I mean is that most skins I've seen for IPB have been very....rigid, and vB seems a bit more soft. I suppose it's skewed by the places I've been to though.

I run both a IPB board and a vB board. The reason I say go with vB is that, when it comes time to upgrade, you usually don't have to start all over again with re-adding your special addon features as vB now designs these as plugins.
With IPB, my special addon on features are PHP scripts and are much harder to initially install and re-install when they are sometimes affected by the upgrades.
I used to like IPB and use it all the time, but since being on VB more often I would say that I prefer VB because it's easier on the eyes and generally more professional.
