Best way to get traffic for a forum?

What is the best way and easiest way to get traffic to forum? I would like to asked for a safest way which wont be considered as spam?

I think you need to make sure you don't get the cart in front of the horse. Grow your readership first. Good content is a start. Polls work well for people to start getting used to coming back. Do an e-book and give it away free to build an email mailing list. Then start the forum, using your email list to pose a new topic or question every day until people get so used to coming back that they book mark it. Then use a good forum hack like phpBB.com.

I guess you need something people are interested in. Forums often provide help so if you had something to help with. Some are niche or topic specific, and others more general. Do some promoting at other popular sites. Hang out at some other similar forums that allow signatures, and provide some help or tips their. Maybe they will take an interest in your help and check your site out.

I think forum posting, article posting are the best to get traffic to the forum.

I do not think that there is a magic formula for this, but having a few posters that create some buzz arround your forum + some link building can made the difference.

I went through an oline course with Chris Farrell (what you may call an online Guru) and he said forum posting is the way to go for traffic. He received 3,000 members to his list in two months (which is very very impressive). The key is to provide good, well-knowledgable information to people. Then from there, use your signiture to draw in a particular crowd. However, make sure you are not pushing a product on people. Pull them in with something free, such as an eBook or video. Then prove to them you are worthwile and they will be on your list and from there deliever. What do I mean by deliever? Simply have a product that is worth the price...as for SPAM goes. Some forums are very, very picky so just be careful how you convey your website.

I'm not really getting a good traffic in link signature. But I guess you need to lighten or bold your link signature in order to be recognized. And maybe traffic will come.

emumbert is right. content is key. a good idea is to have a seperate section from the forum to write articles on. if your articles are good people will wanna talk about them and this will get your forum off the ground.

Dont wait for members to come to your forum and make posts.. Get a list of Frequently Asked Questions in the categories available in your forum.. Then promote your website in Social media websites and communities which are relevant to your forum theme...

Getting traffic to a forum is one thing, but having them signup and start posting is another. The main thing you need to do is while getting traffic, you also need to make your forum look active rather than dead. This means getting people and even family posting on your forum so that it looks active. Any visitors coming to your site will have a better reason to signup then. No one wants to signup and be part of a dead forum.
