How Can You Engage Site Visitors to Partake in Your Forum?

Does Anyone Have any ideas on triggering a response from your lethargic site visitors.

It's like they sign up to participate in your forum but yet don't post anything.

Anyone have any ideas, i've even tried to start the forum off myself with a topic and still no participation.:annoyed:

Ignore the actual numbers of the theory, its the principles that count (and how you apply strategies based on the principles).

go to other forums where in you can advertise your websites, participate to wonderful discussions that will entice them to go to your forum..

Use postbait tactics, have a community section on the website such as articles, news posts, featured forum posts etc on the homepage. Articles which get people passionited and eager to post, a standalone forum is hard to do this way, because users get information overload and you cant pick the few articles you want them to read.

At the end of the article, point them to the forum thread related to that article in order to post.

Excellent ideas, thanks... currently I have keyword links at the end of my article pages which lead site visitors to other article pages which are related to the one that they just read. I did not even think about having links at the end of the articles that lead to the forum pages which are related to the article that they just read, it makes absolutely perfect sense. Im on my 3rd attempt of a forum now and i have a good community going (FINALLY)

What i did was, it might sound silly but i got a few friends together and we all registered, and spent a few HOURS straight using the net to find articles and related content to our niche and used it to make threads. Then after we were all done making the threads we all made one extra account and our account and went around and commented each others threads,+repped, thanked and all that. (theres scripts for this as well, depending on the forum). But i like to do it to make it look more legit..

Once you get populated and a nice community together then you can later delete the "dummy accounts/threads". Hope this helps man.

Now this sounds a little unorthodox, but I actually like the idea, my only problem would be finding the friends who are willing to do it with me and be able to write good quality posts and threads as I would. I could probably do something like this all on my own, but then it would be all my ideas only.

I like the idea of getting a group of passionate people together and having a sit down/cram session for even just a few hours of nothing but just posting, thanking, thread making, posts, commenting...but most will not do this for free and not with the same amount of creativity and passion as the forum owner would have.

I would much rather create useful forum topics and somehow lure and entice a response from actual forum members, rather than generating my own false topics, it just seems deceptive to me....but I do see how if implemented correctly this strategy truly could work and potentially lead to an amazing start-up for a new forum site.

However, in a perfect world, if a forum owner were to find and get together a small group of genuine and eagar individuals whose true intention is to better the site and/or forum then this ideally would be excellent, because in essence that is what forms an online forum community...people who willingly partake in the forum, simply because they want to partake and engage in forum discussion.

Now I can see this working excellently for a group of people who together own, share and/or work for a forum site!

Thanks for the suggestion, I just may utilize some sort of strategy like this, once I find and secure a team of members who care and are passionate about the niche my forum is in.

Nice! Glad you read it man. I actually had a GOOD group of about 6 people to help me with the forum. Its actually a "game sharing" forum for ps3 console owners. So the content that we all used to start with we were able to use and keep because it had to do with out nice and it included games link downloads in every thread we made. So In the end it was great. 15 days open we have 238 members and nearly 1800 post's! I hope my little idea helps you out down the road.
