okay, my forum has finally started getting new registration, but don't know why, they are not posting anything
any clues, what could be done?

Every board has that. Many people register and don't post.
If it's a new board, it might look dead and they don't find any thing to reply to or don't think of something to post about.
Some webmasters make extra accounts and make threads with them making it look like it has more active users, giving the visitors more stuff to look at and reply to.
Wacko University...for kids!! Moderated by our own beloved...WackoHater.I rest my case!!
They might be Spam bots.. They register and look for a place to spam.. beware.
I think that Ninno's explanation is the more accurate in this case.
You may want to consider hiring a paid forum posting service to add content, threads and posts to your forum. They're not expensive at all.

As Peggy said, definitely hire a good paid posting service, it helps get things going.
And Nintendo is right, he is Grim and The Webmaster is me.

people also lurk. Some don´t start chatting until they feel like they want to get to know the other members. So, what you should do is definitely get people to start posting, paid or non paid. Once there is a flow, you can pretty much put it all on autopilot.
We've been trying to get a couple of forums going now for almost 12 months. A lot of 'new' members are bots, but some, as you say, just register but don't participate. I prune the bots and the spam daily, as well as posting. We've also had some paid posters. So far, no real members. It's quite hard to keep motivated.

You need to get a good flow going. That is a must. I co-own www.bloggertalk.com for example which has almost 6k members, yet conversations don´t really happen. Even though the traffic is huge. For a little while the forum was hopping when I had a great super mod, but I got into it with her and then it fell apart again. If you have good members talking to each others, sharing quality info and such, others will want to join. That is going to beat any paid service.
Just use this forum as an example, you feel that people like it here and there is always something new going on. New mods, old friends reunite and such. That is really the key to success in the forum world. You can of course use a forum as a marketing tool only or as link bait in order to get attention to a service connected to it, and then it´s all about getting traffic one way or another. But if you want a quality forum, create quality content and try to motivate others and get them involved as much as you can.
Just my dos centavos.

Forums are an odd beast. What combination of events and postings work for me may not work for you.
Recently on my main forum we had a train wreck, one member who is known well on all the DJ forums came on and started preaching his message, I didn't have a problem with that but the way he was preaching (very abusive and abrasive) was causing all kinds of problems. During this period our stats went through the roof, we even surpassed the largest DJ board out there for a couple of days.
We decided to temp ban this member until the moderators could hold a vote, down went the stats. We went from 500-600 posts per day at peak down to about a 100-200 right now.
Long story short, everyone loves a good train wreck. It's up to you to decide if you want that type of atmosphere on your forum.
Hi, I am new member of this forum, I will try to be active here. I really like forum very much because of 2 things
1. The design is EXCELLENT... very clean and pleasant
2. The segments are really great.
I will be an active user here![]()

Thanks Jani! We hope you do stay and allow us to get to know you!
Yes Kalina, I will definitely be here
Also, don't worry about the members who are not posting... Just keep working the best for your forum and things will change.
There was a forum (URL not disclosed) who offered $2 for making 20 posts.. I made 20 posts and earned $2 but after that I never turned back to it because it was not a forum of my taste. I want to suggest you too that don't make any offer like that to get postings on your forum.. you will get posts but not real active members. You will get just spammers actually.
Hope you will understand me... Sorry for the bad english![]()

Actually its another member here who runs a seperate forum that was looking for ways to get their forum going, not this forum :-)

I think a having a personal address to the 0-post members is a good way to persuade them to post. some thing like a PM or an email.. maybe a contest, like post contest? but that would make them spam I think. I hope not![]()
actually that was (or still is) my problem, in my forum 1/2 of the population has 0 posts while the active members tend to post on game threads.so sad.
I think the majority of people who go to forums are "readers" rather than posters.. there are some who will post no matter what.. for those others, you have to draw them out with an interesting post or reply of your own.

Like the OP, not been here since April 11th.
Guess his forum with nobody actively posting is keeping him busy?
as i have a forum too...
i think that is normal,
almost 50% of my members are not posting
they just looking around for something they think interesting...
if it's nothing, they just leave the forum...
you have to know that most of new members
of our forum are member of other forum too
I think you should come up with something to catch their attention, like maybe, a person-to-person PM to persuade them to post?
I mean, me, for instance, I don't give my time to read (not all the time) group messages but if the PM is personally for me, I'll definitely read it.
......
err, I already said this in my previous post, sorry!

Most people just register and dont post because they dont like the content.
