Red face What kind of targeted forum could I create?

Well, I have the domain messageboard.cc to start with, and it's probably

the simplest of simplest domains for a forum, and I have really no idea

where to start. I've tried webmaster forums which it is now, teen forums,

and tons of stuff but it doesn't seem to get the attention it needs. I was

told that a targeted forum would be nice... any ideas on what I could

    change it to?

    Thanks

The best advice is to choose a subject that you are interested in. You will be enthusiastic about your content and you will be able to offer advice about it to your users.

Forums are a lot of work, anyone who has run one will tell you that. It needs to be something you have passion for or else you'll loose steam, get fed up and let it go to hell.

I agree with comments above. First and foremost, think something about you as a member can keep talking have knowledge and passion about the subject. W/o that it would be very very difficult to start off!

Second, it take weeks, months, years to get forums off the ground...so before you start off, think if you are ready\interested\haveso much time to invest in.

third, think if you are ready to keep adding contents, posts and be active on empty forums for months...in a hope that one day you will have your first real memeber, keep him and grow from there.

When creating a site, just ask yourself, will you remain on this site as a visitor? what will make you reply to a thread admin has started? FRom this point of view keep adding new threads daily, go on and on whethere some one resply or not create 100s of threads asking some questions igniting some one to register and post...and one day you will get your first member and then on keep growing

If you are ready for these things, not one can stop you from achiving success.

one more thing, I have gone thro similar situations where I started and closed thread, due to impatience, lack of interest after the weeks and have come to above conclusions.

    I hope this is helpful

    Thanks for the big explanations

I am going to be developing this site into a forum hosting site for forums of all different sorts...

It seems most people have been pointing me in that direction... a forum hosting site for phpBB, SMF, and possible myBB and YaBB.

The best thing is to choose a subject that you are interested in. Even if you choose any subject that you could possibly think of it will not catch on. No one will visit and empty forum. It's like going out to a niteclub. Which one would you choose, the nightclub that has alot of people in and a good atmosphere or the empty nightclub where nothing much is happening. I know that I would definately choose the full nightclub.

Anyway, you also have to promote it hard to get traffic.
