SMF forums, anyone familiar with this script?

Going to build up one forum on my domain blog.
Using, for now anyway since vbulletin is a mite expensive for me, SMF.

ANyone familiar with this script?
Because once I get going, will need logo and where to place, where to place banners and other advertising (no, not adcents).

Will keep you in mind.
Just went through a bunch of templates for the script, and did not find a one that I liked.
Over the next few days, will build up the categories and boards.
Then go from there.

I've done a few test installs of SMF -- It seems pretty simple and I believe the layout is done with a template system like vB & MyBB.

Have a look at www.mybboard.com -- It's free and a lot like vB.

I have an installation on my site, which I have linked to before (I think you've seen it *shrugs), however since I don't know coding that much at all...I just tinker till I like with templates, I'm not sure how much help I'd be.

I've also started an SMF script and still figuring out how to make the mods work with the template I choose.

I know SMF quite a bit esp in templating. I think you will need the files in the Themes/yourtheme directory to edit the templates, specific file: index.template.php

I am no longer working on a forum, or will have a forum.
Too darn many forums out there to compete with.

But continue on, as other people may need help with this script.

I think PHPBB3 will be a lot better when its out of beta stage than SMF, and its gonna take over Vbulletin IMO

I played around with phpbb3.. The admin menu system is still non-sensical. None of it is smooth, settings are splattered all over the place.

vB has best admin CP I've ever seen.. All settings are in the logical place.

sorry to say but I found SMF better that phpbb though I think phpbb is more user friendly to the uregular members. thought administration-wise, SMF's better

It's pretty good for a free script. I recommend getting Joomla and then getting Fireboard (bestofjoomla.com) it's a SMF but modified and 10x sexier.

I too have seen this done before and it is great. It works flawlessly with the CMS (Joomla) and has a lot of functionality. I just wish Joomla had better template coding options.
