Default We need more vBulletin mods to control spam

I think so, I have started a thread on their forum and if you guys think it's important, please support me
FrogEngine.com - Directory and Webmaster Blog » Blog Archive » New vBulletin mods needed to help control spam <-- info
Make it easier for mods and admins to control spam - vBulletin Community Forum <--the thread.

One of my forums is old and has 8k members and is way hard to control. I think this would help every forum owner save time and make it less successful for spammers to hit and run.

hmm, isn't the only really effective method to watch it and control it manually? I don't think anything will ever control it much better than how it is now.

Really, the popular forums get overrun with spam.
Only way I see to eliminate that spam is the mods working their butts off.
And of course, members who do report such spam.

Manual banning seems to be the only good option.

Yeah, I totally agree. For me the decision is to either have something to help me just spend a few minutes a day cleaning it up, or shutting the joint down. Maybe that is what I really should do. I still think some of my ideas would be helpful though.

Yeah, that's what I mean. Not sure how a mod/plugin can determine who's posting what and such.

Yeah, I have no clue how to revive my forum other than being totally on it. I have a great dude helping me, but don't wanna get him to the point where he's sick of it.

Just get more mods.
Mods just for specific forums.
ANd give them one marching order:
ELIMINATE THE SPAM AND BAN THE BASTARDS!

Face it, spammers will do anything to get their spam out there.
Not just email, but blog comments and forum postings.
Think that with the work of registering for so many forums, they would turn honest and go for better results.

Thanks, checking it out. I still think vBulletin themselves could do more to help control spam.

I thought they were looking for new options? It's abundantly clear the stock options are not enough.

We're down to one spammer a day or less from 5 or more a day with stock vB options. My staff and I have decided we would rather do the rest by hand then risk automation insulting a valued member.

Here's a hint. The capture can use different fonts. Install several and rotate them. Find maybe 25 fonts and use 5 or ten in rotation a month switching them in and out.

I have three forums and like every other forum owner, have been plagued with Spam and Bot Spam. Ever since the release of the auto register (bot) tool a while back..it has been a real battle.

Below are the tools I swear by on my forums and outside of an occasional (maybe 1-2 human spammers per week)...I don't get any auto bot crap!

I really like the first one as it has a configurable "time variable" you set on registration between the time they click on Register and then Submit. It works WONDERFULLY on bots and it's fun if you have it email you so you can see just how many times they try. Never had a false trigger in the month I've been using it. The second hack actually throws in another tick box and time delay that is a backup to the first hack. Nothing is full proof but cutting out all the Bots makes managing the human scum spammers manageable.

I had the spam problem on my forums...... After alot of trial and error, I found a couple of hacks that, when used together, reduced my spam by about 90%

I wrote an article that explains how I did it.
