You're a genius! My ftp client has an option to connect via ssh but I never played with it. I just connected to my VPS as root.. Sweet I can browse the whole file system!

Now here's a question what effect does this have on file permissions? Since I would be uploading as root does that mess with permissions when I upload to /public_html under one of the home directories? I'd assume it would assign ownership to root..no?

After trying a few different ones after starting this thread I'll stay with LeapFTP. Simple, easy to use, and lightweight.

It's also great for gzipping up backups to download! So much easier downloading or uploading a single file than 100 smaller ones.

Depends on what support they have and what permissions you have, give it a shot and find out

You don't need dedicated, not sure what the requirements are to tell you the truth. It's got ssh, and sftp / scp.

Cpanel, do you see the 'backup' icon? It depends on what skin they are running for their cpanel as to where it exactly will be.

If you do a full site backup, or you can grab the mysql data bases seperately.

BTW was more than likely to late to edit, not sure how long C has that set for.
