Just curious what everyone's first step is once they have their site up and running. I mean how do you go about promoting it?

Making a proper strategy plan for off page vary from industry to industry.

Well in case of first step my favorite way is a press release to let the world know that I now have a site.

planning and budget is my first step always. but yet i have just do this for others not for me.

Research and Planning should always be your first step.

Market Research, competitor research and planning

well .. business analysis, competitors analysis, keywords analysis, and location of business.

First step would be to advertise. you'll need people to know about your site.

As for any business first steps comes Market research say what niche is running recently, what are it market and its buyers, How profitable it is etc..

Thus here it start with same procedue like keyword research , market research etc, and then link building and promoting.

As per me first step is research and analysis of all aspects concern to our business, then comes selecting right keyword for our business, then writing unique and highly informative content by including selected keyword than use complete ON and OFF page techniques for full and better promotion.

mine first step is business maintainable,,. i like business join...

first step you'll need people to know about your site.

competitor analysis in marketing research, scope and nature of the industry research, recent marketing or product research, a new strategic direction.

For me the First step is on-page optimization and then link building.

first submit the site in search engine then do on-page work like keyword research and content for the site etc then building links for the site and also use the social networking sites.

My first step is introducing the site in my self promoting network. ( placing the links in other sites that I own )

For any website the first step is get index. In this few things can be done like directory submission and similarly social media bookmarking. Submitting your website on social media bookmarking website allows you to get good amount of traffic and also helpful in index of your website.

1st Step Should be Targeting your Customers ,

In my opinion, select product or service, place and targeted customer may be first step of a business.

Your site content will promote itself, if it is of quality and interest to your website visitors. As a first step, I would recommend ensuring that you have good website navigation first, prior to attempting any marketing plans.

After all, you do not want to spend effort into marketing, just to send site visitors to a page which is full of errors!
