    Default Need server hosting advice

I have about 8 Magento stores. Do you think it would be advisable to host these sites individually or opt for my own dedicated server? Also, I am looking out for reputable service providers. Can you suggest some good names in the market? Do you think it would be a cost effective option to optimize Magento? I am fairly new to server hosting and I need your help with the same. What are the glaring differences between dedicated server hosting, reseller hosting and VPS hosting? Which one is the best? Can you share your experiences with me? Thanks.

I'd go dedicated, no other way.
'Shared' imo is crap for ecom.
Not only do they limit you in so many ways, security is also a huge issue with so many running so many different types of scripts. Plus with dedicated you don't have others maxing out the cpu and ram, other resources of the server.
A good dedicated does not have to cost a bundle, and you'll end up making up for extra costs in extra profit and sales.

What's your budget for this? I suggest you to avoid any host offering unlimited or huge amounts of space otherwise you'll end for the same problem. Unlimited = as long as you don't use much.

A dedicated server isn't really needed in your situation I think. A VPS will do the trick. Once you grow from there, you can then consider a dedicated server. This will save you huge bucks per month.

I'm saving over $50 a month with VPS instead of dedicated servers.

    Yup, I'd advise a VPS.

A Dedicated Server is a single dedicated piece fo physical hardware. Like an entire physical server somewhere for your use only. You can get managed Dedi's or self managed. If you take this option, and you're unfamiliar with server maintenence, i'd advice you get a managed dedicated server, or at least have someone on hand that knows what they're doing.

Reseller hosting can either be VPS, dedicated or shared depending on the provider. Reseller hosting means that you are allowed to sell on your hosting to other people. The main point about reseller is it's more a contractual thing, rather than a physical specificaiton or anything.

A VPS is a good midpoint between shared hosting and a dedicated server. You get your own virtual dedicated machine that runs on potentially shared hardware. A lot of companies are selling cloud hosted (and therefore scalable) VPS. They're good price and you can administer it how you want.
Same with the Dedicated server though, make sure you have someone that knows what they're doing or you could accidentally screw things up

It depends on how much traffic your sites get. Have your hosts ever warned you that you're using too many resources (in terms of CPU/RAM) for a shared system?

All depends on how large your sites are, how much space and traffic and if you need any dedicated resources of your own. I have a lot of clients that have reseller hosting with me and they have hundreds of sites, with many eShops and they are all happy.

It really depends on your requirements though, but if you do go for shared hosting, I strongly suggest you find a reliable host, such as Surpass. I wouldn't recommend NameCheap, their servers are slow.

In general dedicated servers are the best. But a high quality VPS beats a low quality dedicated server straight out of the gate. Cloud-hosted VPS is a good option because it offers redundant storage. Plus since a virtual unlimited amount of machines act as one system there is no single point of failure. That is a huge benefit for your eight eCommerce sites.

P.S. Don't even consider shared hosting.
