Hi,
Today must be the day for spamI had over 800 in the Akismet in less then 24hrs. Most days are only around 350.
Wonder what brought on so many spammers yesterday ?
What is the most you have ever had in a 24hrs time?

The most I have ever had was 564, but then, I normally keep the sites that are based on WP's comments turned off. As 80% seem to be wannabe seo guru's spamming me to promote a link to one of their paying clients, Which is kinda bogus anyways.
The more wannabe seo guru's pop up, the more spam becomes a problem, you have to figure that each seo / sem backlink spammer will put out 200+ links per day (Some cases are 2,000+). Then you have to figure that there are at least 5,000 newbie seo wannabe's that read a blog about commenting being the way of the future & jump on board, so we are looking at an easy 1,000,000 to 10,000,000 blog spams per day (and that only counting the newbies, not the continuing spammers that should know better by now).
I predict that eventually, people will be forced to turn off commenting (as I have had to) just to avoid the wannabe seo spammers. Sad really![]()

Hi,
Yes I understand what you are saying. Yet it is so fun when you get a real comment on your work. As long as Akismet does the job I'll leave the comments on. Hope that day of being forced to turn off commenting never comes.
