Thread: URL Redirection from old url to new url

Hello everyone,

I am an web designer of a reputed organization. We are redeveloping our website after almost 10 years.

In the new website, we are implementing "URL-Rewriting" feature for the product detail page.
The old url structure of product detail page is like domain.com/productdetail.asp?bookid=1&pageurl=book-title.html
The new structure will be like domain.com/book/category-book/book-title.html

We have already posted the old urls for thousands of books in various press releases and blog posting websites.
Since, our url structure is going to be changed in the new website, there will be fall in ranking of our website in Alexa and other such websites.
We also don't want the old links to go waste, so to keep that in mind we have decided to keep the old url structure also in the server, so when any visitor will click on the old link there will be no disappointment and there will be less chance to lose our customers.

Regarding this scenario, we have following few questions:-

1) If we keep the old url structure in the server for product detail page, will there be any chance for creating duplicate pages from the SEO point of view?

2) We have almost one lakh books in our website database, is there any way that we can implemet one-to-one mapping, so that when one visitor will click on the old url, they will be redirected to the new url with same book id?

We are using JavaScript, VBScript and ASP languages for our website with SQL Server 2008 as back-end.

Please give us some solution for the above mentioned problem and let us know if one-to-one mapping of Redirecting a dynamic web page is possible with ASP language, if possible then how we can implement it.
