Thread: Does Dmoz link really help?

Hello All,

We all have heard that if your site gets approved in dmoz, your site ranking will improve.

Is it really true? Does approval from Dmoz really matter?

I don't think so about it. But, I would like to hear your opinion regarding it.

I have no idea, i have never had one. I don't even bother trying anymore.

I don't have any idea either, I once post at Dmoz and I don't know if it's approved or not.

Dmoz is a good authority site, and it's dofollow. If you can submit your site to a category that has a high pagerank then it can help. The drawback of dmoz is that it is human - manually edited by real volunteers. This means it can take a very long time to get listed. There is no guarantee that a site will be listed. It is worth it to take the time to submit your site. Just don't count on getting listed in a timely manner. They have a huge back log from what I understand.

Really it helps during search occurs. When search engine spider don't find search information then it take information from DMOZ directory.

Since Google devalued the links from Dmoz don't concentrate on it. There are so many web directories who can help your site to rank better. submitting to Dmoz is a waste of your time.

If you have a quality product I would recommend you try submit to a specifc niche within dmoz. Not just because of dmoz link juice but because at least in past it seemed to have special weight in Google. I think the effect has lessened over time though.

sure they do. not just you get a backlink from DMOZ, lots of individual search engines (including Google) and directories use DMOZ directory dump as their database so you actually get backlinks form lot of sites aside form DMOZ

Dmoz is all dead if you ask me. It used to me the place to go if you wanted your site to rank well. But that's not the case anymore, no one care about it.

My advice is to look elsewhere for your backlinks.

I never got into DMOZ but I have still been successful with SEO.

It doesn't hurt to submit to dmoz because its just one time submission, also we cannot tell if the link over dmoz website weighs high because we usually do other link building at the same time.

It's the only want to get into the Google directory. So far that reason it should be considered useful. It is also human edited which make a listing there useful.

I havent tried using Dmoz but I am planning to . Anyway would they accept blogspot blogs? or wordpress blog? or they require own domain and hosting for submitting your site or blog?

Dmoz is google directory which has their own reputation among online webmaster and users. If you get index in dmoz then its help you to generate good brand image on internet. Because dmoz have strict guideline and not approve anyone's website in their data base, So try to get index in dmoz by following there rules.

You are correct. If this where the only reason I would still go for a DMOZ listing. I like those Google links.
