Thread: Google your site.

Hi,

Anyone know if this is a good idea?

I have a friend who used google to go to his site. He will search for his pages using the keywords even if it is on page 200. Then he will click the search link to go to his site.

He will then look at a few others pages on his site. Then search another keyword for his site.

According to him by doing this he moves up.

Any of you think that this could work. According to him he say it does.

Well, google do track number of clickthroughs to each site for each keyword, but I have no idea if they use the data to affect the results - it is likely though.

Probably isn't the best way to try and increase your SERPs, but probably does work a little.

I know a few people who use gmail accounts to "favorite" (click the star next to the site in the results) their websites and say it helps their SERPs too - but I doubt it has much effect compaired to content, keyword density, etc.

Thats not to say it's a bad idea. It can't hurt...:frustrated:

I think most people will have done this on the odd occasion even if they do not admit it. I think it would need to be done on a large scale to have a significant impact.

Isn't Google smart enough to check your IP address and tell that you are clicking on your own links in it's SERP's?

This might lead to you being banned from Adsense and lose some PageRank, due to disciplinary actions from google!

Especially if you use and sign into google webmaster tools from the same computer your are running these searches on.

I am not 100% sure about it but I think it can affect the ranking very very little because he is the only person opening his site again and again using different different keywords but his IP address is same. If google is measuring stuff they can easily see that 1 person is opening the same site again and again.

I mean there are many things to get good google ranking and in my opinion it is waste of time using search engines to open your site.

This brings up two really dumb questions.

First. Do you think google keeps track of every IP done from it's search engine?

Second. PR and placement in the SERP's must have something more to it then just backlinks. We have all seen PR2 sites on pageone for a given keyword and PR6 sites on page three. I have also seen webpages on page one with ZERO or almost NO backlinks. So what is putting them there?

Google Analytics does constantly. So do their web server log files, I'm sure. Also read up on privacy advocates complaints about how Google logs everything.

I've heard about click rate from SERPs being a measure of popularity, but I don't know for a fact. Google weighs things differently. I would guess that if it does matter, it counts for less than backlinks, and I'm guessing that backlinks count for less than good content.

Content. It's rare but I've written some detailed, focused and well-referenced content which have achieved top SERPs in a short time even though the site was brand new at the time.

IF he has time he can do this but it will not really improve his ranking (or only minimally). He could improve his website by posting unique and quality content.

its good Idea and its show something unique to doing it.

This is a painful job but it works really..

I think people used to do this a lot but i read its not so important to google now. I wouldn't bother doing it more than once a day though.Dont think it would have a significant impact on your SE Position
