Thread: Knowing the difference between tags and categories.

I do not know the difference between tags and categories, they confuse me a lot. Can you members tell me the difference between them and thier importance in SEO? Please, i need your contributions.

Tags are useful for categorizing posts which talk about a topic but aren't necessarily focused on only that topic. For instance on my blog I have a category called search engines. Any posts I make about Google is categorized as search engines and tagged as Google. This way if someone wants to see everything I've written about Google they can just click on the Google tag and it pulls all posts I've made about Google in every category.

Categories are also useful for SEO since you can setup your permalinks to include the category in your URL.

For example you are posting about "Twitter Tips" then you should make a category "Social Media" because in that category you can post about Facebook, Twitter, Stumbleupon...etc"

At the end of the post you should make tags like "Twitter, Tips"... you are actually further classifying the topic.

The link to reach the post is tag and the related content belongs to the particular category.
