Exclamation Evil Google Paying Money Just to Receive Priority Online!

Here is a quote from an article describing a current deal going on between Google and Verizon.

Google and Verizon, two leading players in Internet service and content, are nearing an agreement that could allow Verizon to speed some online content to Internet users more quickly if the content's creators are willing to pay for the privilege.

Very interesting, how Google claims that it's business model has always been about fairness, quality content and net neutrality, NOT PROFIT! Google prides itself on not having a priority submit or to recieve money for having your listings in SERP's.

However, now Google wants to ensure that it's own web content receives a priority and boost in speed, while other web content (not owned by Google) receives a lower priority, by paying internet service providers money to make sure that it does happen!

Also this is very interesting information to come across, right after Google made PAGE SPEED a ranking factor.

Google pays money = Faster Google Content Speed
Google Ranks Page Speed = Higher Rankings for any Google Content

Does this Smell Fishy or Sound Shady to Anyone Else?

Now if any other individual or organization were to do this, they would for sure be penalized by Google for attempting to modify or influence their search rankings.

Just because Google has billions it is ok for them to do this, yet no one else can?

    Thanks, Please Comment!

Google used to be all about Net neutrality and their "do no evil" motto.

    So many questions..

If Google (or any company) does this, will they end up in an anti-trust lawsuit? Will that not happen since Google is so cozy with the federal government? Could a law be passed allowing this sort of thing so those companies won't end up in court? It that law does pass, would it be constitutional?

As far as I know, that's just an idea they were bouncing around the room. I don't think that's official, yet. At least that's what I last heard in a video by Matt Cutts a while back.

Interesting. It would be strange if both of those things do occur at the same time.

    Hi,

If they would try something like that, I wonder at what time the word "monopoly" comes into to play?

    Seriously. That's why I mentioned anti-trust lawsuit.
