No, if that were the case google would have to penalize itself.

Lots of people use the practice of more then one domain name and I have never heard of a penalty.

I have even used a domain name to got to internal page in the site with no penalty and the PR of the page went up.

I cant see why there would be a penalty for this, as it is a widely used practice amongst many very well indexed sites.

Definitely not. It's just a common thing done for site promotion.
