    Default Meta Description Query

Since I am not very well versed about how SEO stuff really works, I would like to inquire about Meta descriptions. Is this important at all? Why do so many web masters give such high regard for it? I don’t see the relevance that it plays on the SEO effectiveness of the site that I have. What I think is that getting more clicks is more relevant. Do you know how I can end up with a very good Meta Description? What are the things that I can do to understand it better? Any suggestions, recommendations or comments will be very much appreciated.

It is important for the website to use Meta description. You can stuff the primary keywords up to 150 characters.

The meta details are important just because of the reason that whenever a crawler crawls your website, it checks the text only part of that webpage. You can stuff in all your relevant keywords and details of the webpage in meta details.

Matt Cutts has recently said that google no longer looks at the meta description for ranking pages. The value comes from a well written description that will entice humans to click on the link. When making a meta description, don't stuff it with keywords, write a compelling description that users will want to click on. In the case of spammy or unrelated meta descriptions, I have seen google ignore the meta description and use text from the page.

What i have read about meta element in HTML so far tells me that we give information about the webpage to the crawler using this element

Similarly, we give keywords to the crawler by using meta keywords

Not only this, i have seen many people auto refreshing the page using meta but i have read that doing so is harmful for your webpage s.e.o

    Hope it clears my point
