Thread: Alexa Ratings, are they important?

Each webmaster has a different point of views when it comes to alexa ratings, well for me I don't usually use them because I find that there results are only limited to those who have the actual toolbar only. so you if your website user does not have a alexa tool bar chances are they are not included in the results.

what is your opinion regarding alexa ratings?

I look at alexa stats, but very rarely. I have yet to see any evidence that higher alexa rank helps in anyway. I have seen sites with a small amount of traffic and alexa 2+ million rank, yet they still rank well in search engines. And, it's not the most accurate so the real traffic numbers can vary so much that it's hard to really put any weight or importance on alexa. I wouldn't spend a lot of time worrying about it.

I don't think alexa considers those sites which have the toolbar installed. I have not installed any on my site, but still my site is slowly creeping up in the rankings.

I don't believe in Alexa ranking. Whenever I comment on blog, the Alexa rank is increased for short period. But in real we don't get any traffic from those blog. For me only traffic and SERP matters.

Personally, I don't care about Alexa ranking, because it can be easily manipulated right? and besides it only works to those who have installed alexa toolbar. Well maybe to those who are selling "live" sites, alexa is important

ALexa rank is not important at all if to talk about your website, but on the other hand it could be took into consideration if to speak about link buying.

Alexa ranking is useless (just like Google PR). Alexa rank can be easily manipulated to provide a "false" number of traffic.

Only the professional nonprofessionals hold Alexa ranking with any value.

Yep we can know how many websites are top in the world when we compare to our website.

I have never considered Alexa rank in seo. I have taken only Google PR in consideration. I don't know much about this. This is my scenario. I can't say that Alexa rank is not important but I have never used.

Only important if you are looking to sell your site to an idiot. These can be easily faked and are not a real measure of a websites worth or ability to generate income.

Alexa is traffic rank to a particular website. The traffic rank is based on 3 months of historical traffic data collected from the users of Alexa Toolbar. It also blended with distinct traffic data source and page views of website. Alexa rank also considering page viewing for any particular website and as well as number of visitors to website.

Alexa focuses more on the traffic that Web sites receive rather than on links to it. Subdomains are not ranked separately, and neither are subpages within a domain. The overall traffic is calculated for the top-level domain only.

Okay, lets say alexa ranking is not that important, but the general truth is alexa ranking still has a role in SEO. Although I personally agree that alexa is not that important, but I'm not totally saying that it is totally useless.

I guess alexa is just another guide to use for your seo tools when used in conjunction with google webmaster tool it can be very useful

No, they are actually not important at all. It is just a useless counting and ranking based on traffic.

Alexa stats are counted by their toolbar, if you are in a tech niche its likely your stats will be way off as there is noway that tech savvy individuals will let Alexa install their toolbar

Alexa eye searches how many visitors are there, if you have good traffic then alexa will drop. This is a basic thing.

My point of view when it comes to alexa rankings is that it is not that important but not totally useless.
