Google Analytics should be considered a requirement for anyone who builds a web page and wants to track the traffic. It's imperative to know where your traffic is coming from, what they type to find out, how long they're staying on your site, and what the user is doing once they get there. Not tracking this information is marketing suicide.

Some stand alone products can do the same type of tracking however Google Analytics is the number one tool for monitoring site performance.

It's pretty easy to implement btw... they give you a piece of code and you put it in your homepage before </head> tag... it shows you how many visitors you have had and from where / which resource etc.etvc.etc.etc.etc.
