I agree. We can also add article submission. Forum posting, blog commenting and article submission in a unique content.

Article submission is the best link, as you have control over the link text, can provide relevant subject content around the link and in many cases there will be fewer competing links on the page.

For Google blog commenting is the strongest also the forum links are considered the same. Directories are considered the lowest.

Personally I have always had the best results with blog comments. It does not take that long and it really works well as does forum posting. I find only a few social bookmark sites have ever worked for me but when you do find one that is niche related social bookmarks pan out really well.

If they are on sites that are related to the site being linked to then articles, blogs, and forums are best.

Do not concentrate on just one way to build backlinks. Instead diversify! Only using one strategy is very unnatural. How would it be that a site would only get linked from blog comments for example, if it was naturally linked? No way, you will likely get flagged by google if you do that. Use all of the methods, plus more if you can

good backlinks should always contain good content along with it for search engines to recognize what is the link about.

otherwise google will not consider as a good factor for making your website's rank better. Thats why article submission are better than simple link building.

I believe that contextual links gives quality Google backlinks. All of these are good ways in generating quality backlinks also: article submitting, forum posting, blog commenting, social bookmarking. It is more effective if these are all white hat SEO which is not against the Google SEO rules.
